I recently purchased a new computer, and everything was running fine but there was no sound.

Then a mate came round on Sunday, was playing around with it trying to get some sound and accidentally stumbled across a few settings which were muted. Fixed that up and I had sound which was pretty awesome.

A couple of hours ago there was a blackout. When it came back on my computer was working fine but once again there is no sound! The speaker power is on but there is nothing coming out.

I've tried to find an answer via a Google search and it seems to be very common but I couldn't find an answer which helped me. I've already updated the drivers.

Anybody had this problem before and fixed it?

Laptop/Desktop?

Either sometimes have hotkeys which mute the sound. Sounds dumb, but its the first thing to check.

Failing that open up your control panel. Open sounds and audio devices and check there is nothing muted in those settings.

If that's ok open up your sound driver program, realtek or whatever, and make sure there's nothing muted in there.

Failing that, **** knows RL

Yeah I've checked to see if anything was muted as that seemed to cause the problem the first time but I can't see why it isn't working. Even when I am testing the sound I can see those 'sound bars' going up and down but there is no output at all.

It is a desktop PC. Bloody Vista. I never had this problem with XP.

go to the search bar in start menu and type msconfig then when u open it click on the services tab and make sure all the audio services are working and then click the start up tab and do the same.

Hope it helps

Vista rules, such a good OS...not :thumbsd:
LOL, promised so much....delivered so little :thumbsd:
Try the W7 beta; even as a beta it's so much betterererer then Vista, and it ain't even been released properly yet
I'm using it as my main O/S and I haven't had too many issues yet (couple of small ones but i'll live!!)

I have the same problem at completely random moments, for seemingly no reason.

Just have to restart the audio services.

I have never been able to find the search bar in Vista.....

Very bottom of your start menu.

I just type in services, then click the services option.

Click continue on the Management Console popup. Then restart your windows audio services.

I think that's how I do it.:p (Haven't done it for a while, which is good.)
