Gold Coast need to ease up. Better to finish 8th and play gws in gws than finish 7th and play freo in perth.

We’ve added an extra game to the year.

8th had 13 games in 2024 and 12.5 games in 2023. Both seasons had 23 game seasons. So to miss out as 8th had 15 wins in 2025 is a decent leap. Means fringe teams had to win an extra 2 games than previously. I think the Dogs can count themselves very unlucky. Won the exact same amount of games as the previous year and finished 4 spots lower on the ladder.

You have to admire loyalty but ultimately where does it get you if you cant even make finals. Cripps has the same issue at Carlton.

Yeah, I said previously that Dawson had lost the Brownlow on the North match, and this confiirms it.

The problem I see with the AFL putting blocks in place with father/son and academy selections is what's to stop clubs encouraging players to tank in their draft year?

If you had a potential recruit like Nick Daicos surely the club would encourage them to sit out or do something to effect their draft standing so they end up at their club of choice.

The only positive from the AFL shitting the door is that it potentially shuts down the whole Cochrane scheme that Port are attempting to cook up.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven as a ruse by Port to try and circumvent the system.

I suggested exactly this in the other thread. If you’ve got a guy who projects to be a superstar, pull him out of the school and underage programs and make him train and play with your club in his final underage year. Would see him playing senior footy and likely slides in draft rankings as would be forgotten about to an extent, unless he actually destroys it at SANFL, VFL or WAFL level. I don’t think you’re going to stunt player development in doing so, and potentially save yourself headaches come draft time.
