I am saying a 2nd team based in Sydney somewhere has a better chance to grow the game and succeed in an NRL city.
That's what i believe the AFL should be trying to do.
They thought going out west of Sydney would work, but it has not

The AFL think they are playing it safe by going to Hobart but i think that small market base will not work
There next likely safer bet (20th team) will be a 3rd team in SA or WA. That's not growing the game in my opinion.
A 2nd Sydney team or a new team in Canberra would work in my opinion

Your team GWS should consider a move to Canberra and be renamed. But that's unlikely as i pointed out in the post.
The NSW Government won't take kindly to funding a stadium and then the AFL abandoning it.

No way a new stadium gets built anywhere in Sydney. If not the SCG than it would have to be Accor.
I don't really see a problem about sharing the SCG (around 48k) over a new team at Accor (about 80k+)
You have local knowledge on transport but i would have thought getting to the SCG would be easier than getting to The Gabba at present.
Sydneys public transport is way ahead of Brisbanes

A new team in an 80k stadium would be a huge mistake and as you said, "But no way in hell are the Swans ever going to move from the SCG."

For me finding a suitable Sydney training base (very expensive) would be crucial and grow the game from that area.
I think the Sydney/Canberra split is going to happen, but cutting bait in Sydney will be it. If the Giants leave, no one's going to get invested knowing they may get their club pulled out from under them (sound familiar?).

The problem isn't the size of the SCG. The Gabba is SO much easier to get to than the SCG. It's largely flat if you want to walk, there's a dedicated bus link that can move heaps of people to the city. Getting to the SCG is probably only a bit further of a walk from Central, but it's all up hill and the light rail doesn't seem to transport as many compared to the buses on the dedicated link.

It might be a bit different in Canberra, given they only get three games and from reports it's still a pretty neutral crowd (lots of AFL fans rather than specific Giants gear in the crowd).
