kersley has no choice if the horse pulls up ok after his cox plate run - northerly must run in the melb cup, if not to prove he is the best for several generations, then just to give me double a chance!

go you good thing!

I liked Kersley's comment after the Cox Plate when he said, "I'd love to fly the flag for Australia in the Cup, but I don't want to break the flag-pole."

Kersley will put the horse's interests first ... and rightly so.

thats right, so as i said if the horse pulls up ok they must run him.

60kg isnt an issue, 10 day break, and the trainer & connections know they will NEVER have another chance to acheive the cauf/cox/melb cup trebble.

dont see how they wouldnt run him.

If Northerly pulls up ok, it must be tempting. Never say never, but it would be unique record.

Depends whether they intend to give him another preparation after this one.

I'd say the 2 miles would be more of an issue in Kersley's mind than the 60 kg. To run him at Flemington might bugger him up forever. He's already had 7 runs this time in. He's a champion racehorse ... not a pony club hack.

he is also a 6yo gelding at the peak of his career. so what are the options -

- put him in a paddock.
- put him on a plane to race overseas (inherintly risky operation at the best of times).
- run him in a race that could, & probably would, be the highlight of his career.

provided he seems happy within himself over the next week, i know what my choice would be.

Your Dealing in Small Bickies KT - For your own personal gain!

60Kg!

The Grandstand!

I know what I'd be doing if I were the owners!!!!

Japan or The Paddock!

I hope he runs, the race needs it.
But if Kingston Town couldn't win with 59kg against one paced stayers, what hopes he got against the O/S raiders.
I know it's a completely different race now but history says no.
He's got nothing left to prove.

Seth.

firstly how could you know if im dealing in small bickies, big bickies or arnotts?!, secondly how many more bickies do you think the owners need?? if the horse never won another race they will be talking about him & living off his earnings till they day they die! thirdly you underestimate the horse - 60kg is a weight but is it a grandstand for this horse? i seriously doubt it.

fourthly if you were an owner are you seriously saying that you would pass on the once in a lifetime oportunity to start your horse as the favourite in the melbourne cup?? i dont care what your answers are because anyone with 1/2 a brain knows the truth, which is - if the horse has pulled up ok, you run him, no question!

Not for me either kt, The King took a long time to get back on track, 2 years from memory. Give Northerly a campaign in Sydney in Autumn, prove himself there, then take on the world.

They could always freshen him up and run in the Japan Cup if the Melbourne Cup is too soon. At the end of the day, connections have already stated that they will do the right thing by the horse. So a little romantisizing in the meantime doesn`t hurt.:)
