So it was revealed recently that one of the coders from Bungie hid a 'Destiny' sign in 2009's Halo ODST, 4 years ahead of the games announcement and 5 years ahead of it's release.

This has prompted me to ask, what are some of gaming's great easter eggs?

GTA is generally king here.

I know in Vice City there is an actual 'Easter Egg' to find.

GTA III still has my favourite in the simple 'You weren't supposed to be able to get here you know'

Gta v has a shit load on its own. Dexter, No Country for old men, ghost on the cliff etc.

Cant be bothered looking it up now but read recently about some programmer who coded his name into some game from the 70's. It wasn't discovered until 20 years later, i think the article called it the first ever.

I like the one in Duke Nukem 3D, you go into a secret room where you find Snake Plisskin's head on a spike before Duke says "I guess he didn't escape from L.A."

I remember seeing that Destiny sign way back when I played ODST in 2009. I'm pretty sure there was a bit of buzz around it at the time and people were speculating that it was Bungies next project after Reach.

in pokemon x/y

At Hotel Marine Snow in Geosenge Town, there's a hiker on the second floor who says we should visit his region. He will then say never mind, we'll see it in due time. Could this be a hint at another Pokemon remake in the future?
Going one step further, on the 2nd floor of Hotel Richissime in Lumiose City you will find an elderly couple. The husband will say "The 40th wedding anniversary is the ruby anniversary, and the 45th is sapphire."
His wife goes on to say that their first date was at the Oceanic Museum (which is in Slateport City of the Hoenn region). Both statements are clear nods to Ruby and Sapphire, and may hint to their remake in the near future

So many to choose from, but I'll share my top 3.

I love the Borderlands franchise and have nothing but admiration for Gearbox when they decided to immortalise one of their former fans. There's a story here about it

The Chris Houlihan room in Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past is pretty good as well. Basically a guy named Chris won a competition in a Nintendo Power magazine and the lucky sod got his name in one of the all time classics

I'm also a massive fan of the Elder Scrolls game so I love coming across M'aiq the Liar, especially since he's a mouthpiece of Bethesda. The reasons for not putting a multiplayer feature in the games always makes me chuckle

Go on.

They are just a couple of small ones like this vid and one of the suspects listed on the who killed leonora johnson website has the name dexter. I suppose the infinity killer bodies buried in the sea could be a nod too but the bodies are in one piece.
