Hi Guys!

Looking at getting a notebook computer from Harvey Norman for Uni as i need one for notes etc.

Would this one do the job?

IBM Intel Pentium M, 1.6GHz, 256MB ,20GB HDD, CD-Rom, 14.1'' screen, Windows XP.

All i basically need it for is to store powerpoint slides of the lectures from various units and use it to type up notes related to uni and perhaps have the internet on it.

Some are saying it wont have enoough memory etc......Thoughts? Remember only want it to be pretty basic as only want it for uni.

P.S - Price is $397 - My mum will put in 100 though if i get it and might see if HN can do it cheaper if i pay cash.

that is the worst notebook i hav seen

But will it be good enough for a uni student who doesnt have much more to spend then the price of this one on a notebook to do stuff uni related only on it and nothing else?

It'll be slow but will have enough for what you want - I saw those in the catalogue, ex lease ones? Make sure that you get some sort of warranty with it.

I'm guessing ex department of education lappies... Just watch out on the hard drives on them..

I bought a cheap laptop with similar specifications a couple of years ago for uni and its still running fine.

It'll run fine for what you want it for - just the RAM seems a tad low. But it is a good deal, if the RAM isn't enough, you can always upgradeit later quite cheap.

ended up with a...

Acer Aspire 5315
Celeron 530
512MB
80GB HDD
56k modem in-built
wireless
Windows Vista Home Basic
CD/DVD Burner

For

$720 - but get 149 bucks cash back

Thoughts?

Seems to take ages to sign into stuff and when i type stuff the cursor sometimes highlights stuff or deletes stuff or moves to the line above even when i dont actually press it --Might just be a sensitivity issue or something?

The issue isnt with the notebook...it will be with Harvey Norman who OFFICIALLY have the WORST customer service and follow up service in the history of the world.

I purchased a laptop from them in 2005, which arrived devoid of any running programs and then shat itself two months later.

It took me to go through consumer affairs for them to give me a new one and pay costs.

Yeah...I won the battle but f*** did they sit on their hands.

Go to a reputable dealer and all will be sweet.

Good luck with it mate.
