WOuld we be interested in trading up in the draft for Essendons number 1 or 2 pick?
What would be the trade? 1st Rnd pick and Polak? 1st Rnd pick and Murphy?

sheedy is a spin doctor.

notice after every loss, he comes up with some garbage........and everyone walks away from press conferenece talking about his garbage instead of how shocking essendon were.

Why trade away someone we've developed for the past 3-4 years who is just starting to show some very good signs? Murphy is our best kick at goal. This draft is supposedly quite deep, so even if we have pick 8 or 9, we should still be able to pick up a very good youngs player and we keep Murphy - is the #1 pick going to be worth two good players?? Let Sheeds develop his own players, not steal ours.

Yes - it is worth it because we get to take the best up and coming midfielder in the land, something we haven't been able to do for some time (Since Hasleby)and we desperately need.

This draft is full of potential champion key position players but only Bryce Gibbs stands out as a potential champion midfielder with all attributes (IE. skill, speed, height etc.).

A lot of teams are doing well with only the bare minimum of key position players, but all the teams doing well have well performing midfields. Pavlich, McPharlin and Johnson (With Longmuir and Haddrill as backup) is more than enough KP talent to last a while.

I agree and for the record there are plenty of top mid-fielders trotting around that were'nt taken Top 5.

If Connolly's still there we won't trade for early draft picks. If anything, we'll trade away our picks for experienced players. CC would know full well his head's on the chopping block and isn't going to pick players who will need another 3 or 4 years of development.

Yeah because CC showed that this year when he traded away our first pick for an experienced player

I would be assuming that if Connelly is still here next year, then we have made the finals and probably won one. I'd then assume that next year we have a reasonable crack at making the top four. And I'd leap to another assumption that CC and the powers that be will recruit/trade as well as they can to make that a reality.

If there is value in trading for experienced players, and it makes the team better, then why wouldn't you?

What would it be worth to get Farren Ray? Our first round pick? Perhaps. Not sure, haven't been watching him closely enough, but if he's out of contract and wants to come home then he'd be a possibility.

What about Wells (yes I know I'm dreaming)? What if you could get him for our first round pick? Of course you'd do the trade. What if we could get him with our first round pick and ... Medhurst or Polak?

I would be reluctant to trade up for pick 1. The draft is quite deep this year and not much separates the top 20-30.

Instead of trading up our 1st rounder, i'd much prefer to get another late first round or 2nd round pick.

Though Bryce Gibbs does look an attractive prospect at pick 1, i don't think he's worth losing a player and a pick over.

If your looking at players from other clubs; Those we would be most interested in, IMO are:

Akermanis
Ray
Wells

Though i doubt any of the above will be wearing the purple next year.

I'm all for trading up for this pick so long as we get a midfielder. We have a surplus of young KP talent and a shortage of genuine midfield talent.

To get a potential future A grade midfielder its worth it.
Its been said this draft is deep and there have been examples of good midfielders being picked up later but this is the surest way to get a gun. And what we lose in a KP prospect is made up for in better delivery to the remaining KP players.

Of course a lot of supporters don't like the idea of giving up any well liked player but in times to come opinions will change. The reception adam gilchrist got when he replaced timmy zoerhrer was hostile at first but was the right decision for the future.

keep away from ourp layers murphy or polaks not up for trade ....weve spents years developing them into what they are now and now way we getting anything in return for them...more young bunch to develop they can only go for a draft 1-2 1st round

Selwood and Proud (?) both sound like very good midfielders who would add to our list, as would the two Sth Freo guys Jetta and Collard, so effectively by trading "up" to get Gibbs we are also losing one of them.

If the Bombers were going to trade they would want Mundy and a draft pick. That being the case they can keep their draft pick.

Would geelong trade Joel Corey for Medhurst plus our first draft pick? Geelong can do with more proven goal kickers.

Really like Joel Corey, but it would be a wee bit crowded up there with Ablett Jnr and the Bald One, and I couldn't see them fitting Meghurst in. It's tall forwards they need, and Hawkins looks the man most likely.

Probably a pick as well.

Mundy be a loss!!

But what value would a Gibbs add to the midfield almost immediately and have say a South Freo middie as well. It might almost turn our clearances around and get consistent delivery to Pav, Murphy, Farmer etc

I don't think you give up players like Mundy. If they want to leave, then you might trade. Consider Campbell. Maybe Murphy. Mustn't move Mundy.

It is more a question of how badly do we need to turn the clearance issues around and at what cost maybe its Hayden\Magic ?? You dont want to give players like Mundy up.

Sheedy saying pick 1 is up for trade is code for "Come and get him, Adelaide, but bring your chequebook."

You don't have to have the number 1 pick to get a good midfielder in the draft. There are others from the looks of things who would be pretty useful who will be available come whatever our likely draft pick.

I stated on another thread that Polak is only 22 and shouldn't be traded. Plus, I agree with those who have said that it is a deep draft and trading up for an earlier pick this year is not really necessary. But............................
I have a really strong feeling that Gibbs is a going to be a phenomenal player. The last time I had this feeling was when looking at the draft a few years ago and Judd struck me as someone who could really play. Whoever drafts Gibbs will be happy no matter what he costs them. He has the potential to make an impact straight away, and the kind of attitude that will seem him improve exponentially thereafter. Now, Polak may yet become a star, and our first round pick could reap another star, but I hope the club seriously consider trading them on for pick one and choosing Gibbs. This kid will be an absolute superstar! I guarantee it.

Whilst I agree the kid is probably the most outstanding draftee for probably five years, I believe he will be a two year player at most for the club that drafts him- if it isn't Adelaide. He and his family (and the AFC for that matter) have been absolutely shafted by the vic-centric AFL and he will be a boomerang, mark my words.
