Who from your team deserves to have his number retired in the future?

Indiana:

#31 - Reggie... of course
#7 - O'Neal...if he can continue playing like he is now for a long time he will definitely get his number up in the rafters
#23 - Artest...(see O'Neal)

Smoky:
#20 - Fred Jones...a star of the future...a real possibility to become the next big thing...needs to work on his shot though, but he has the ability to be the face of the franchise in coming years

34 - Shaquille O'Neal
8 - Kobe Bryant

Number that perhaps should have been retired by the Lakers but haven't:

4 - Bryon Scott
12 - A. C. Grren
21 - Michael Cooper
43 - Mychal Thompson
52 - Jamaal Wilkes

Sedale Threatt's stiff

Lakers - Shaq, Kobe.
Spurs - Duncan.
T'Wolves - Garnett.
Nets - Kidd.
Sixers - Iverson.
Sonics - Payton.
Jazz - Malone.
Mavs/Blazers/Hawks/Kings/Nets/Warriors/Sixers/Cavs/Heat - Jim Jackson.

:D :D :D ....Keeping in the spirit of the thread

I do think the retiring of numbers can go a bit far. Essentially when you retire someone's number you are saying the bloke that wore No. X had such a profound effect on this franchise / team that we could never give another person that number to wear because it wouldn't be fair on the incoming player who could never emulate the feats of the legend (ie no-one could), and the memories that that number brings back are so vivid and so great we would never want to taint those with the deeds of a mere mortal.

That is an incredibly rare player. I know Boston have heaps of numbers retired but they have an incredible history. It would be interesting to know what numbers teams have currently retired. But honestly Ron Artest and Fred Jones  is going too far. In fact a lot of the guys quoted in this thread I don't think really warant having their numbers retired.

what i was saying was that if they live up to their potential and make a name for themselves in the NBA and their franchise they may warrant having their number retired...no way are Artest and Jones ready for that honour...in fact they may never be but i'm just putting forward what could happen in the distant future

Mavs haven't won anything yet, so I wouldn't expect to see any number retired. I'd say the big three (Nowitzki, Nash, Finley) would be the obvious choices.

Finley deserves it. He has been at Dallas through all the tough times and is now finally seeing the rewards. A true Maverick.

As for the Bulls....

#33 Scottie Pippen is the only number that will be retired in the near future.

I'd be annoyed if I was Horace Grant and I wasn't recognised by the Bulls. He was a pretty substantial component in the first three championships.

Yeah, why not retire BJ Armstrong's number and Cartwright's and Paxson's and Rodman's and Harper's and Longley's.....

All of the above were integral parts of the championship years but none deserve to have their numbers retired. Only MJ and Pip from the title years deserve it.

With the possible exception of Rodman, those players mentioned didn't have anywhere near the impact Horace did. Furthermore, Horace, along with MJ and Pip built the foundations for the championship runs, Rodman was just gravy.

Nope. Didnt even stay with the Bulls for long enough. Besides Rodman was a far bigger impact than Grant. Rodman is twice the defender and twice the rebounder. Grant's offensive numbers dont really matter as we were covered with MJ and Pip.
