If the option was a straight swap - NAS for Butters- would you do it? A week ago I would have said no, but watching NAS rack them up in the centre today I’m thinking that may be a pretty fair trade and a win / win for the clubs if both butters and NAS ultimately want to go home

Why would you take the worse player?

2.5 million, 1 year contract in the psd. If one of the teams below us picks him up, do the same thing next year. He could be the first player to be a year by year mercenary for double what he would otherwise be earning!

Serious moment for a sec - not trying to take the piss out of anyone, but it always amused me when there are friends or cousins being kept in the loop.

Have seen countless times when these individuals are told one thing only for the player to do the very opposite a short time later.

For instance, Dunkley had close friends spouting their mouths in 2022 telling anyone who would listen that he was gonna join Port. Of course, he joined Brisbane.

More recently, I became acquaintances with a cousin of Brisbane Broncos player Selwyn Cobbo. You are never quite sure how to handle these scenarios but I know Cobbo's story very well, and this person was relaying info to me that I knew had to come directly from a the source given what I know about the young man. Anyways, we got talking about his contract, and this individual was adamant that Cobbo was telling everyone as recently as that week, that he was staying in Brisbane at the Broncos, and if he left, it would be to the Gold Coast Titans. Barely a week later he signed with the Dolphins.

Unless you're speaking to CD, Cripps, the player in question or their manager, anyone else is more or less a second hand source and from there, so go the Chinese whispers.
Was thinking the same.

I don’t tell my cousins a thing. If I were a player, I’d say even less, likely on the advice of my manager.

Add to that the fact people love to talk themselves up by pretending they’re in the know.

HOLY HELL, WHITLOCK IS TEARING NORTH ADELAIDE APART. HE MIGHT BE THE BEST THING EVER!!!

I agree Butters is the better player - he’s the closest thing I have seen to a footballing genius - but NAS is very good, is a few years younger, and if we think we are going to lose Butters anyway I think it’s worth discussing
Nah. Use other assets and back ourselves to have a better year and try and keep him. That trade does not make us a better team. Either way we will get a similar but probably better haul for butters next year as we would have to give up for nasiah.

All those saying we should consider a swap

Butters is the better player

however

U lose heart and soul of port adelaide
u lose a leader

think about that
Is he heart and soul of he wants to leave?

I'd.prefer to keep him but if he's going it make sense to consider. It would.make things easier Saints first and NAS for Butters and our second, done.

If you're going to ignore what I've posted then don't bother replying.
What you posted entirely ignores the big picture in favour of a bloke having a good game at Prospect Oval against a bunch of plumbers and electricians.

If there's a way to keep Whitlock and get NWM, that's obviously preferable. If there's isn't, then byebye Jack. It's not even a question.

Can we keep Whitlock and try and offload Todd Marshall?

If NWM wants to leave and nominates Port then we will be dealing from a position of strength.

Trading out an extremely talented and versatile 1st year key forward prospect (close to an AFL debut no less) as steak knives from that position would be very Port, but foolish.

It's a terrible idea because it doesn't actually improve the list. The whole point of bringing in a player is to increase your chances of winning a flag. If you trade out someone just as good, or arguably better, there's no net gain. That defeats the purpose entirely and makes the whole discussion pointless.

If Butters comes out and requests a trade (which he won't), then sure, it becomes a conversation. Until then, it’s not worth entertaining.
