Must be Easter Weekend again, because Oakbank has their noms out. Disappointing to hear that they are with Modular jumps except for the Log, but they have 19 for the Von Doussa Steeple, 30 for the Saturday Hurdle, 20 for the 3600m Flat Race (That's right, a 3600m flat race), 16 for the Great Eastern and 14 for the Monday Classic hurdle.

Is anyone going? Has anyone been before? Should I try to go to this one day?

Yeah I've been to Oakbank, probably 8 years ago now though.

Shame about the changes to fences but at least they've kept the fallen log. Very different with the cars parked all around the inside and outside of the track, also funny watching a race by the fence inside the track at the 600m mark. Also carnival rides and the ferris wheel in the infield was just a bit different too.

Do want to get back there once again, terrific racing carnival. Although if I was going interstate for a racing carnival at Easter, it'd be pretty hard to turn my back on Sydney.

It's easter. Who gives a **** about the Sydney carnival. It's oakbank time! My favourite time of the year. I havent missed an easter monday. It's a family tradition.
I was up there at the trials on Monday. With Musgrove's team absent from the trials there probably won't be too many winners to come out of them but an interesting participant was Yourtheman. He's over here from NZ for the von doussa and great eastern and won the NZ grand national hurdle last season.
The king of oakbank - John Wheeler has a big team entered.
I'll add more as the big weekend gets closer. :)
BTW, re those stupid victorian modular steeples in use for this year, this will be the first and last time they are used here. The club is growing live hedges as we speak for 2008 onwards.

o yeah, id rather watch the oakbank carnival at home then watch the sydney races!!!
i agree its my favourite time of year, behind the may carnival...haha!!! all easter weekend i sit at home watching them on tv. i wish they had a detailed coverage of the carnival on tvn instead of the usual sky channel coverage.

its very hard to go past john wheeler, at oakbank!!

Oakbank is great - one year, me and two mates paid $120 to go in a marquee that had its own tote, big screen and all the gourmet food and beer you could ever want. Got absolutely blitzed and was close enough to the action to be able to watch the local races live, then duck back inside the marquee to drink on and load up on the interstaters. Lots of nice young fillies around all happy on bubbles and up for some fun, so I highly recommend the day! :) :thumbsu:

Unfortunately didnt have time to leave my tips/comments on here.
Impressive win by Clearview Bay in the von doussa. Should take out the big one on Monday. There should be several scratchings in it after today.
I lost marginally today, was down bigtime and got to the last and had $15 for the win on it which saved my day.

Highly disappointing Great Eastern IMO. Just walked along for the duration and with those bloody fences they were using there was no action or excitement. Glorified jumpers flat - hopefully next year with live hedges it will be better.

Just home from another great easter Monday at Oakbank. Good to see no falls in any of the jumps races. Had money on Stamus Pro Hanneur in the great eastern at 50/1 after seeing it make good ground the other week. Nice place dividend there. :thumbsu:
Bring on next year!

No doubt Fullta will be there, not so sure about Starz. ;)
Was a regular (Monday-Friday) but I haven't been for a few years, a dozen or so mates go down every year.
It is sensational.

May sneak down on the Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

Had a horse have his 1st start there in the early 90's,ran 3rd.
Havent been since 2000 but seriously considering it this year.
