Went to the game tonight and just wanted to share a few observations from tonight..

:thumbsu: Thursfield: Has been severely missed imo. Who cares if he doesn't do any offensive work, the bloke can defend and thats all I want from him.. A few nice spoils and marks.. Liked his work.

:thumbsu: Patto: Did everyone see he's mark and goal... Now, I know its only one thing but genuinely looked like a forward in that play. Spent little time down forward but snagged a couple. I would like to see him used like Hale for the Roos. Park him down at FF and then when Gus needs a rest, they swap.

:thumbsd: Simmo: WOW!!! I honestly thought he couldn't get any worse... The only positive out of his work tonight is that it is the last time we will see him at this level.

:thumbsd: Deledio: Love the bloke.. But did he not learn anything from the last meeting with the Dogs?? Soundly beaten from the first bounce till the final siren..

Now, as for the team:

There is no presence or forward line structure. On numerous occassions we would bring it out of the backline, look for a target but no lead. Hence, we stop, prop and then handball it to a stationary player in a worse position. On a few occassions there was a lead but never at the ball carrier, it is always a double back and then pass over the defender's head.:thumbsd: No wonder we turn it over so often, as we continuously break down at half forward and then half heartedly chase back. I dont know if this is a fitness issue or mental but hopefully we can change some of this next year..

Please post your thoughts as I was at the game tonight and when you watch on TV, you have a different perception of the game.:thumbsu:

I too was at the game and the main thing I noticed was that the second the bulldogs defence had the ball they had players working into space 2 kicks away. At the other end we wouldn't give any options until not only our players realised what we were preparing for but the bulldogs too and they would cut it off at the first kick..

I'll give you an observation, that 5 min period before half time when we kicked 5 goals, how many long kicks did we make in our forward line during that time ?

Assuming we can get rid of a max of 7

From todays team

Pettifer......never to be seen again, selfish, unskilled, lazy
Simmonds....The Bulldogs found him out tonight, he always jumps early and is back on the ground before the ball arrives. Hudson baulked most times and either smashed it forward or tapped it ot their advantage....unlikley to be part of our future
Mcmuffin.....have never seen anyone guard space like this guy, while the opposition just run around him.....doesn't have defensive bone in his body....his only future is in the forward line otherwise.....gone

From those not on the park tonight:

JON. Not an AFL footballer

Johnson....too old and slow.....gone

King.....too small, crap skills....gone

Hughes...one trick pony... not AFL standard....gone

Edwards ....too small, crap skills....gone

Very similar list, although I would probably keep Edwards and get rid of Bowden, not a future player. And then maybe keep hughes, as that is a max of 7... (you listed 8)

I dont think you can turn over more than 8 players this year with shallow draft and number of picks

Let's see who the 2010 coach keeps and delists.

Heck, as evident again tonight, Wallace can only Coach a half of Football.
It's either what he tells them at half time or what he doesn't say to them that lets them fizzle out.

If Jackson could play most of next year, like he did tonight, I would raise my expectations of him.

Deledios effort was just not good enough, he crapped himself everytime he got near the ball. he is just too soft, give up too easily and lacked determination. picken gave him a football lesson becasue he was half hearted.

agreed, but wouldnt mind brown going aswell. hughes and edwards have a chance of becoming players with a new coach, the rest either have no hope or are well past it.

i pray to god, no actually richo, that we have a massive cleanout.

its those tagger that wear him like a glove, he just looses all confidence and gives up. i hope we get a coach who motivates him, i think when we have a team playing competitive footy, lids will rise, unfortunately he isnt a player that stands up and takes it upon himself, with the exception of last week against one of the weakest sides in the comp.

Whoever wants Bowden to stay is kidding this bloke killed us turning the ball over with his smartass kicks.:thumbsd:
