Totally pointless I know, but i just thought it was rather interesting that we haven't won a game in round 7 in the past five years. Hopefully we break the hoodoo on sat.

If you knew my footy tipping form, you wouldn't be saying that.. me saying that the trend indicates we could lose might be the best thing that ever happens to this team :D

Interesting. Isn't this the round in 1999 where our season went pear-shaped? We were unbeaten for the first six rounds and got thumped by St Kilda. That's from memory, so I could be wrong.

We were still on top of the ladder in round 16 or something that year. THen we only beat Collingwood the rest of the way. Hard to believe that St Kilda was our THorn that year. THey beat us in round 22 by 80 some points. Yet we beat Essendon by 74, WB by 72, Hawthorn by 36, Brisbane and Freo and Colingwood in rds 1-6, and in round 8 beat Sydney at the SCG and didn't allow Lockett to Kick the record.

I believe that if it hadn't been for Mick that year, we would have won the premirship, easily.

Why?

1. He kept saying the team were not as good as good as their results. They started to believe him.

2. He wouldn't commit to staying or going until after the season, but the media talked about it constantly from around round 10 onwards. If he had said, I am going at the end of the year, then go tn with the business of leading the Eagles to the Flag, we would certainly have won the Premiership.

IMO Mick is the reason we have been almost there since 1994.

He hung on to the old guys - who while being still good, were old, and it wasn't until Judge came along and was forced to use them that guys like WIlliams and Chambers etc got a run.

IMO that is total cobblers.

I do concede that Mick was over loyal to his Premiership players and played them (especially Milli) when injured. So did Judge and so does Woosha - maybe that's because they're our best players? I don't agree with it, but......

We peaked in Round 8 away to Sydney. We ran out of steam big time. Injuries started to tell. We did unbelievably well to win an interstate final. Since when did Judge give Williams or Chambers a run? Mick was a big supporter of Williams, who played in that final against the Dogs. Won the 1999 premiership easily? Ask Essendon, Carlton or North Melbourne whether that's a sustainable argument.

I agree with USAEagle. We were playing exceptionally well in 1999, and I believe we may have missed out on a premiership with that end of season drop off. We lost to the WB and Hawthorn by 2pts in consecutive rounds, had we won them we would have finished 2nd or 3rd. I know the team was probably overachieving, but they were playing incredibly well up until rd16. If it wasn't for the MM rumours, I strongly believe we would have at the very least a Preliminary appearance, if not a premiership.

So how come we deteriorated so badly in 2000/2001?

The year we were robbed was 1996. Lost to Carlton with a Greg Williams cheat on Tony Evans, missed top spot in the last game away to Sydney (dramatic evening that - I was there) because of it, won our first final, then forced to play away to Essendon who had finished lower in the H&A and lost their first final.

Absolutely. I've always said (and argued with Roos supporters from time to time) that was the premiership cup that got away.

What really added insult to injury over the Williams incident was how they used it in one of those "Footy Flashbacks" segments a couple of years later and Williams and Sandy Roberts were having a good old chuckle about him putting it over the umpire. Bastards.
