... from Wednesday til Monday. I've got a ticket to the Pies vs Bombers game on Thursday and will probably go to other games as well. Pity the Eagles aren't there this week:( .

I want to hit the shops, pubs etc so am asking if there is anything on in Melboune this week? Is the comedy festival still on? Any cool night clubs to see (or be seen at)? Anything other than the Crown Casino/Southbank complex (seen in in 2000 when I was there for the GP) to visit?

I'll be staying in the city centre (Duke of Wellington) so I'll have to rely on trams, taxis and my cunning to get anywhere - God help us!!!!

Thanks in anticipation:p

You didn't time your trip very well then did you!?! ;)

What sorts of places - pubs etc - do you like in Perth (as a comparison)?

Shopping - do you want cheaper type shops (Bridge Road, Q.V Markets) or something a little more 'designer' (Chapel Street). As far as shopping centres go, Chadstone is pretty big. Bourke Street mall is a fav' of mine too.

There are heaps of tours if you're into them i.e - wineries, shopping, fairy penguins, zoo, Puffing Billy, MCG tour, Great Ocean Road etc etc.

If you like live shows, there is always something on. Best to look at ticketmaster & ticketek type sites to see whats on when.

There are a couple of websites that tell you a fair bit about what's on, one is www.melbourne.com.au and I can't think of the other at present.

:)

Must drop in at Goldfingers in Lonsdale St. A true tourist destination. - Duely noted and pencilled in;).

Thanks for the hints so far guys, keep 'em coming.

The Saloon Bar, Toorak rd South Yarra is similar to the Deen & Paddo... There are other good pubs along Chapel St and over the bridge in Church st.

Live Music try Coner Hotel in Richmond or the Esplanade (Espy) in St Kilda... both excellent dark and dingy pubs with quality acts.
(maybe the Price of Wales as well but i think that has been gentrified somewhat). The Metro is the same as the Metro here just bigger!
Try Young and Jacksons across from Flinders st Station if you want to experience a historic pub with a colourful past.

Eating... dont think there is a better place in the world when it comes to range, price and quality of the food. Endless cullinary delights in Melbourne.

I think if you are off for a pre-game drink and post-game one too then the MCG Hotel will be the place to be if you want to continue the atmosphere of the big clash you will see.
