I'm feeling shocked and saddened by the death of the two lady jockeys (jockettes?) recently. I guess some consolation for their families is that they were doing something that they loved when they died but it's a terrible loss.

I read an article in Perth earlier in the year that suggested State and Capital city councils are conspiring to make it as difficult as possible for drivers to get into the city. And when they do it costs a bomb and you have to look out for more and more cyclists (that is assuming you can actually drive on the road in a car - Sydney anyone?). When you look at the fact that in Melbourne the W Ring Rd has had non stop road works for about 15 years, Geelong Rd the same and Monash carpark too you do wonder. That's the three main feeders in and out, and it drives most of us batshit.

Had to go to Sydney today, drove of course, because I don't do public transport! Cost me $65 to park for 1.5 hours, admittedly it was at the Sheraton on the Park, so I made the concierge guys do valet parking lol Was told I'd have to collect the car from the car park myself!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: Not this little Princess!!! Produced the car parking voucher, announced I would have tea + would they kindly being the car up in 20 minutes. It was done + I was given a bottle of chilled mineral water :hearts: It's just devastating that the Colonial days are over ;)

:oops: Aren't there? I must have gone via Frankston o_O Perhaps it was when I was driving to Toorak? Are there tolls then, Shell? I was sent a bill for not paying a toll, somewhere + wrote back because the toll worked the other way! Same happened recently, received such a nasty letter, which told me to change the battery, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but the tolls worked for the rest of the trip!

I reckon anyone who goes to the trouble of writing a letter deserves to get let off a fine ;)

You see the worst scenarios and judge all on that, our horses are treated as a part of the family.. you do realise that you cannot make an animal weighing in @ an average of 1/2 a tonne do anything they do not want to do!

Would appreciate an honest answer from you here, have you actually ever cared for, or had the responsibility for, a horse on a day to day basis..? Not talking about donating $'s for others to do the job either..

Don't be offended Shai, it's my opinion, no one has to agree with me, however, I am allowed to have my own opinion, based on my experience.
Yes, I have cared for horses on a daily basis. I had a pony, called Tony the Pony. Also had a former Polo Pony, a gorgeous chestnut, called Sovereign, who was probably the most intelligent horse I've known. I also nursed a race horse, a huge black gelding, called Diablo, who the housekeeper let out of his paddock + he had three of his legs wrapped in barbed wire. Having experienced two legs badly snagged in barbed wire, I knew just how excruciating it was. No one could get near him to release him + he was tranqu'ed by the vet, the barbed wire cut + he was stitched. When he came to, he allowed me to lead him to his paddock + he would only allow me to feed him, dress his wounds + brush him. I was too short to get his rugs on, so I'd lead him to the stable where he slept at night. I slept with him for the first four nights. I washed him, gave him AB injections + stayed with him all the time. He didn't ever race again, + I was so distraught when our family friends sold him.
I also went out with Bill Inglis of Inglis sales + it distresses me that after the last sales in Sydney this year, 200+ yearlings were sent to the doggers.
I worked for the Stewards at the AJC + the breaches investigated there would stun most people!
+ yes, I do sponsor rescued horses. My latest sponsored horse is Gypsy, who was surrendered by a very elderly man because she had severe laminitis. Sadly, he is unable to pay for her treatment + he was told to have her PTS. I offered to sponsor Gypsy, who after only six days has responded brilliantly to her treatment, is already standing much better + she now has a forever home, where the elderly man can visit her.
Yes, Shai there are some wonderful people who consider their TB as family, sadly they are in the minority. To destroy 18,000 horses in 2013 because they were not good enough to make it in the TB industry is absolutely sinful! Whether you agree or disagree, is none of my business, but I do respect your right to your opinion. + while I will never have your level of experience with horses, I have had two horses of my own + took to a stockmen with a whip, when he whipped a horse for "being bad mannered".
It gives me great comfort to know how much you love + care for your horses, I wish there were more in the TB industry like you. :)

What ever happened to the Orange People? I used to live next door to some, + I had rescued an orange cat, who they really liked. His name was Garfield, but when they asked me his name, I told them it was Rajneesh, purely to be mischievous ;) Funnily, they weren't impressed :(
Didn't they implode because of corruption? + Rajneesh has lots of Rolls Royces, didn't he? Or am I mixing them up? *consulting my friend Google* BBS

I've never paid a fine. I've never had a driving offence fine, but parking tickets, I've always managed to have them cancelled. I had my car towed from a clearway, on a Monday morning! I think the fine was $265 + towing fee was $300 ??? Nearly died! So I wrote a letter, apologised profusely, acknowledged what a nuisance my mistake was on a major road, I was mortified that I'd forgotten to move my car on Sunday, blah. Finished the letter by saying that I didn't go out often, due to my 'disability' + I'd gone to the AFL + my weekend was further ruined by Swans losing to Saints, but the Pig running onto the field with Plugger's number would at least provide a teensy bit of relief. Bingo! Fine was cancelled! Then once the Parking Rangers were managed by the local Council, I would ring the Infringement Officer + he loved cats, had Burmese + Birman, was a Geelong supporter too lol Never paid another fine! But I did ring him regularly to chat.
Another time Council was late sending out resident parking permits + all the residents were fined for having out of date permits! I rang the Mayor + said no one would vote for him the next Saturday because of the fines lol Every fine was cancelled :thumbsu:

I let our two horses up to the house yard today for a bit of mowing. Of course the 1/2 Clydey headed straight for the garden so I had the great pleasure of pushing her barge arse out of it while the TB gazed and grazed on, so I could get them both inside the electric fence.

Later she stood next to me and rested her chin on top of my head. Luckily she is very gentle natured because she is huge.

My friend's brother went over to the US and stayed there, becoming an 'orange man'. Not sure if he still is- that was a really REALLY long time ago. I am pretty sure they're still around.
I don't go into the city at all these days- though I remember the Hare Krishnas who used to dance through the streets of Melbourne. Haven't seen them for many years, either. Maybe they were the 'OP'?? They used to wear orange robes.

To Toorak there would have been tolls. Dunno how you would get to Geelong via Frankston tho :D
You know you can sign up to an account with Citylink, but you dont need an E-tag. Theres no yearly fees, nothing, it's just for low users of the tolls. I got one, when I was with my bf who lived in Pakenham. -only went there a few times-. Might be good for you to get when you're in Vic.


And Rocky = turtles are rocky. o_O

I looked that up the other day when you mentioned it- pretty crazy! With several strange disappearances of wives over recent years- the one from the cruise, the one from out near Fremantle, the lawyer's wife whose body was found in Kings Park or wherever- I wouldn't be surprised if one of those was faked, though a few hubbies have been investigated ....

Yep it is crazy and quite full on in a no holds barred kind of way (one of the scenes made it a bit hard for me to get to sleep this morning).

So if that's not your thing you can always read the book.
