Barrett on Trade Radio says it is going down the road where he will end up at Collingwood.

Did anyone else heard what he Said?

Can Players Sign Offically Sign over the Weekend?

Nah, the AFL doesn't process anything over the weekend. The players can sign stuff, but it'll sit on the AFL's fax machine until Monday morning.

My proposal

week 1 - Draft combine - Focus on young talent
week 2 - Free Agents. Only need one week seeing that teams have 3 days to match offers. Compensation picks given out on the Friday. Need one week from GF players like like Clinton Young/Thomas Murphy can consider their options.
Week 3/4 - Trading period.

Think this will work.

thornton to gws would be alright, why hasn't anyone mentioned beamer going to brisbane, i reckon its a great deal for both clubs, even though its free agency!

It is likely the Giants will wait until the free agency period closes on Friday before recruiting Thornton.

huh?

So they'll take him in the PSD?

What is the point? Besides screwing Carlton out of a third round pick (lowest possible comp)

GWS haven't lost anyone to FA so it is hardly like they are protecting comp.

After free agency, before trade period finishes im assuming. Will take him as uncontracted player concession they received

Carlton: "Don't take those brown paper bags, they're Juddy's."
Collingwood: "Here's where Eddie'll sign you up for Channel 9 exclusives."
Richmond: "Ignore those pills, they're Dusty's."
Gold Coast: "Sorry, we're just going to have to walk around this - looks like Gary's left his wallet here again."
etc
Essendon: "Here we go" *opens door* "Well, we're done" *closes door*

Can anyone please confirm the rules regarding free agent compo. I was led to believe initially that the AFL had indicated that clubs would recieve only 1 compensation pick regardless of the number of player movements. Port Adelaide for example would only get 1 pick for the loss of Chaplin & Pearce. Both players could potentially be worthy of a 2nd round compo so combined they may recieve a 1st round pick as compensation. I have since read other articles which suggest that the AFL won't combine the total losses & Port are more likley to get 2 picks (maybe 2nd rnd & end of 2nd round). Can anybody, with any certainty confirm which is the correct way? I can't find any clarification on the AFL's site & they seems to have made it vague on purpose.

I never heard anything official indicating picks would be combined, so I assume the word on the AFL site that they will not be combined is the stance.

Had it confirmed to me by a recruiter that it's one pick per player. Expectation is that Pearce will warrant an end of first and Chaplin a 2nd rounder.

Edit: It's purely based on a player's age and salary offered by new club. Nothing else is taken into consideration.

Would only be combined if there were players out and players in, of different values.
If you lose 2 players, and get none, then you will get 2 picks. It will be much easier for the AFL to allocated bands if there are only players out, and not in.

But like above, compo will be determined by age and contract $$$
