I realized that there is no decent place to talk about our draft ideas, outside of what we plan on doing with the number 2 pick.

With the trade period thread set to open on Monday, this thread will focus on everything draft related. Who you want at our picks, who you don't want, etc. etc.

So right now, we have picks:

#13,
#57,
#60,
#87,
#105,
#123

Keeping in mind that we have to use at use at least three picks in this draft, I would do something like...

#2 Toumpas, #81 Cameron, #99 Boston.

Other picks can be traded to maybe net ourselves something awesome. Mature body, or what-have you.

I would be gutted if we lost Cameron and Boston, our prime zone selections, through on-trading. I reckon we won't pass them up, especially with them performing at the Combine so well.

Actually CB, it would be sweet if we kept all Tippett talk probably to his own thread. At least, as much as we can.

This is for drafting stuff!

How about this article? Talks about our zone selections.

EDIT -- Well done. :D

I like that quote:

Gold Coast is able to pre-list five Queenslanders and then decide whether to include them on their list or trade them on.

It's considered likely that the Suns will list Cameron and Boston and trade on their next three zone selections.

Exactly what I would do. :thumbsu:

Do you need to factor in a draft pick for Jaeger to be put on the list and for Kyal Horsley to be an upgraded rookie pick? 1 zone selection may only be possible:confused:

Yep, the rookie upgrades are done in the Rookie Draft, I'm fairly certain.

2. Best Available
81. Boston
99. Cameron

If we don't pick up a Wines or Stinger or Viney in the first round, Hrovat is on id be keen to take in the second round. I watched the under 18 champs and nobody goes harder at the ball than this guy, he is in and under at every contest and is just a true honest footballer, reminds me a bit of a Sam Mitchell. the only reason this guy will go in the second round is because of his height standing at only 174cm.

I also thought that rookie promotions occurred in the ND http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_AFL_Draft#2011_National_Draft

surely we would use pick 25.. seeing as this years draft is so deep

That's a bit of a myth. I suspect that pick will be used to try and land a mature body.

Can't see us drafting anyone with it, myself.

Also to note, we're certainly not done with regarding the Mini Draft either. Jack Martin in particular is very much a Scotty Clayton type recruit.

I would love to pull something off like ... pick #2 swap for Martin and Jed Anderson, one of the NT zone selections. Hard inside midfielder, top 10 candidate in this years draft.

Probably never happen, but can dream. :D

Martin would definitely need about 2-3 years in strength and conditioning...isnt he like 60kg or something ridiculously light?

Martin will never be a big unit. Harley was a similar size frame as a 17 year old though.

Two full pre-season will go a long way to fix those problems.

Also, here are the Queensland lads with their official trading cards!

Boston on the left, Bourke in the middle, Cameron on the right.

Love the sound of that, but martin and his dad are a huge risk I don't want our club taking.

I think the Martin/Dad scenario has been hyped up a fair bit. Martin isn't the problem either, it's just his Dad. Hopefully they can stay far away if Jack is living on the east Coast. ;)

We had similar risks with Harley, who's arguably the best player in his draft class right now. I would love to watch the silk of Jack and Harley light up Metricon.

Just wondering what is the go is with Martin's dad.

Martin's on our radar in some way it seems. New article on the AFL site says we've met with him.

The race for Martin appears to be led by the Western Bulldogs, who hold picks five and six at this year's NAB AFL Draft. He has also met with Gold Coast, Melbourne and Geelong this week, all clubs with high selections or compensation picks to offer the Giants.

Just wondering what is the go is with Martin's dad.

I'm not completely knowing on the matter, but from what I understand his Dad is just very protective and clingy. If you deal with Jack, then you deal with the Dad that has a reputation of being quite unreasonable and difficult to work with.

The biggest public example of this is where Jack's Dad suggested keeping Martin from nominating in the MD if none of the clubs interested had decent development programs. Instead he'd keep Jack in WA and develop him there in the WAFL. Just put him in the ND next year. Considering that Jack has since nominated, this obviously isn't a problem, or the comments were taken a bit out of context.

Like I said, such is my understanding, from this and from reading the WAFL boards. Happily to be proven wrong. Everything I've heard from Jack himself though is outstanding. Doesn't seem to bother him moving interstate.

The Gold Coast SUNS Queensland recruiting zone looks set to once again provide the SUNS with an opportunity to select and trade some of the States best young talent.
AFL recruiters have deemed that up to three players, tall forward Jordon Bourke - after Geelong opted not to take him as a father-son pick - versatile defender Clay Cameron and midfielder Andrew Boston are all worthy of a pick anywhere between the second and fourth rounds at this year's NAB AFL Draft.
