Ashcroft said it more as a passing comment than anything. I would be extremely surprised if we actually had a serious look in, especially after re-signing Stanley for two years, picking up Murphy, Broughton and others. Other contract talks could also be in the pipeline.

That's probably a fair call.

Danny Stanley leading goalkicker in 2013? :P

The trades to date have been exceptional, with Clayton and Ashcroft both getting gold stars and elephant stamps for their work.

While it may be unlikely, an opportunity to pick up Tippett would be sensational.

The deadline for Tippetts decision is 2pm tomorrow. It is favouring Sydney, but AFC may try and save face by not going with the so called done deal with Sydney and forcing Tippett and his management to go to "Plan B".

This might be GCS and with Tippett not getting the same coin as offered by Sydney.

I have no malice towards Tippett as he is attempting to secure his future. However this has the potential to have a twist in the final outcome.

Tippett in the GCS forward line would really straighten it up and cause absolute stress for opposition defenders.

I wait in anticipation!

My tip is Tippett to gws.

They have the money, draft selections, list space, and location all in their favour.

I reckon pick 13 should be used Nathan Hrovat, Looks like the ideal Caddy replacement. Tough inside mid, Elite clearance extractor, Work horse, MVP VIC Metro, All Australian Under 18'.

Not overly keen despite the fact that he is supposed to be a gun. Don't we already have Meatball for this role. With Matera also, I'm wary of us having too many short people in the same team - will just get steamrolled by bigger sides when we get to play finals. Plus it seems the Vics have the greatest "Go Home" risk.

These are the players I'd be keen on selecting with #13 if available. All descriptions done by Chris25 on the draft board.

Jake Stringer - 191cm. Likely won't be available
I suppose nobody has been talked about more than Jake Stringer this year. Everyone seems to like him and want him to do well, but then everyone seems to that niggling feeling in the back of the head that is too much of a risk. Coming off the injuy he had, it's a credit to him that he is even back playing this year. The kid was not only playing but starring in the TAC Cup as a 16 year old. His first three games in the TAC Cup this year were quite remarkable - 10.6 from 23 disposals, 4.6 from 20 disposals and 0.3 from 31 disposals. To perform like that so early should tell you all you need to know about him as a person. He was managed slightly through the middle of the year, but ended up making his VFL debut and looked really good both up forward and in the middle. There are questions over whether he has returned to full fitness and if he has his acceleration back. I would say he is nearing full fitness, and provided there are no setbacks, should be back and ready by preseason. There were times in his VFL games, when you could swear you were looking at pre-injury Stringer. I tend to think he'll start primarily up forward, where he knows how to use his body and natural strength to almost perfection. And will slowly begin to move into the midfield rotations, and he should be back to dominating the midfield in no time. AFL Comparison: Matthew Pavlich.

Jesse Lonergan - 183cm. Should be available at #13, though is likely a bit high.
Lonergan is one of the better Tasmanians to come through the draft in some time. He would have been the first picked Taswegian last year even as an underaged player. And although injuries have interrupted his season so far, he got back for the end of the U18 Chamionships and performed well. At this stage, Jesse is very much an inside player who thrives on the contested ball and does well in the clearances. But I get the feeling that if he were given an opportunity, he could easily play on the outside too as he has the speed, endurance and just general athleticism required. But he is just too good as an inside midfielder, so he hasn't really had the chance to show what he can do. In terms of draft position, he could go anywhere from 15-30 and outside of the top 10, Lonergan would be the next best 'genuine midfielder'. So don't be surprised if he is somewhat of a 'bolter'. AFL Comparison: James Kelly.

Taylor Garner - 186cm.
No doubting that Taylor Garner is one of the real surprise packets of this years draft, coming from a long way back to be considered a first round prospect. And while he might not be thought about as a top 10 pick, I'd be giving it a lot of thought. His performance in week three of the Championships against WA was probably the best performance of any player during the entire month in my opinion - and it was the culmination of his early season form. He just did everything you could possibly ask for. He took strong marks up forward, kicked goals and handed them off to teammates too. And then in the midfield, he won his own contested ball and used the ball really well. And he then ended up playing the rest of the Championships with a severely damaged shoulder, which he has since had reconstructed. Which says a lot about his attitude and determination. There aren't a lot of players with his size and overhead marking ability, who are also good in the contested situations. He does all the hard team stuff, but also the freakish things too. The possible rewards of picking Garner are huge in my opinion, he looks to be one of those modern day footballers. AFL Comparison: Nathan Fyfe.

...and that's it really. I can't think of anyone else we would be expecting to get with pick #13. I have Jesse as a favourite, simply because he's from Tasmania. No go home factor and we have a few already. I think he would very much suit us, both with his height and inside winning power. Only thing is, he's tipped to go more 15-20. #13 could be a bit high for him.

It's also possible that we don't draft specifically on a 'per needs' basis and just go for the best talent available at our pick, which is why I've listed Garner. He has an inside game (though not as strong as the others I've listed), as well as other good attributes.

Sure, 13 might be a little bit high for Jesse but we are effectively swapping a ruckman which we have a surplus of for an inside mid which we need. If he is available we should take him.

Whats everyones thoughts on picking up Petterd in the PSD. He's just been delisted today and from memory is a Queenslander?

Ricky Petterd, 24 year old forward from Melbourne FC, just delisted.

Supposedly talented, but has had a form slump. Thoughts?

Vlastuin is definitely another one too watch :thumbsu:
Profile: Midfielder who consistently wins the contested footy and just consistently goes harder than the next player. Big time clearance player. Skill level is exceptional, uses it well by both hand and foot and rarely makes mistakes. Particularly stands out by foot and has nice penetration. Has also been noted for leadership and really leads by example out on the field so there is a lot to like. Marking ability forward of centre very good for a midfielder. Consistently plays to a high level. Athletically not as good as other likely high end midfield choices but is still a hard runner who will work all day and demonstrates great endurance and work rate. Tackles hard and willingly works both ways. Looks like a very low risk, solid pro who is worthy of a high draft position. Probably didn’t produce the numbers at the u18 champs that many expected but still a very desirable prospect and a guy you can play through the midfield tomorrow which will appeal to a number of clubs.

Doubt we'll pick him up now, since if we were considering it he'd be on the plane to Arizona.

It's a shame, good young talent coming from our Suns Academy, you would have thought we'd have loved to develop QLD talent. Clearly not...

I hope you guys grab Ben Warren. Probably a rookie chance. Massive work-rate, covers Nick Riewoldt like ground but obviously without the athleticism, size and sticky fingers. Kicked 60 goals or something in the VFL, would have played plenty more for us this season if we'd had injuries.

He hasn't been delisted yet, but he is one of only a few without a contract, so I think he's in trouble.

Clubs have really been culling their lists this trades period. It has left some decent fringe best 22 players out there that the Suns surely must consider for some experienced depth on the list, even as rookies.

We saw what happened last season with our extended injury list. We simply don't have the experienced depth in our list yet to cover injuries to our top 10 players.

Guy like Bate, Warren or Petterd in the fwd line, Gillies, Bower or Surjan in defence or maybe Sherman through the midfield could help us out considerably if we had a few of these types of player waiting in reserve on the rookie list.

On a different note, noticed Jolly has already been officially delisted as stated on the official AFL list. Must of missed the club announcement. Guess Toy will be the next with the upcoming 1st and 2nd list lodgement deadlines not far away.
