But Pfeiffer isn't better than Hadley and Judd. :)

I was surprised to see Grigg named when we have a few players like Shaun in the side.

What's "good" about Russell not being named?

He's still young and not done with yet. :thumbsu:

It's good that Wiggins wasn't named to play, but not good to see Bannister get a game.

He's only there because Walker is injured. ;)
Please tell me you're not being serious when you say JR adds more to the side than Banno ?

That carlton side will definately account for richmond this week... i'll be happy to get the rucks and maybe fisher back next week against the saints tho...
But face it, our midfield is going to destroy theirs and hartlett will do well at chf as a back up to fev... if jammo keeps up his preseason form too i reckon the fears everyone has got will soon disappear..

Why are people worried about Pfeiffer not playing when Jackson has shown last year how good he can be? Are people forgetting the great job Jackson did. Pfeiffer needs to work his way into the team, not play one good pre-season game.

And please stop mentioning Bentick. If Carlton is to progress anywhere he will never play another game (but thanks for your service during the hard times).

As much as I'd like to see JR improve and show some value for his high draft pick he hasn't done enough to warrant being in the side.

I think its pretty clear that the side is fine except for the injuries, most notably ruck (in other words the correct selections). This is exactly the side I had on paper, except I had Houlihan up forward!

Would it be fair to say Hartlett will play the majority of the game on the ground?

Considering Edwards is on the bench I would say that he will probably split the time with Hartlett and Setanta. Otherwise we would be pretty tall in the forward line. You'd think he would get at least half a game.

i'd think setanta would be resting on the bench if hes as underdone as everyone is claiming on here. Odd little has been said in the media about him:confused:

bentick is a hack, if we are to go forward we need to move on from people like this

he played in the ants last week and his disposal was horrible.

I think most forget the value Bentick offers.

He was top 3 in tackles last year and was our strongest in and under player last year, he execution of the pill from packs in unnoticed, very similar to when Ratts used to do it.

He would be very handy getting the ball out to people like Judd, Murph & Stevo

Looking at our team and what RFC have thrown up, i'm resting a little easier.

RFC have gone tall, but they have proved over the past 5 years that they don't work well as a tall team, and if they want to stretch us for height all i can say is good luck as in today’s games its about the run and not the height.

Over the preseason the RFC has allowed 389 points our backline has aloowed 363, so our backline has stood up well considering it seems to be our obvious weakness. It is the one part of the ground that hasn't changed during the preseason, which is what we needed, and they will be able to hold RFC forward line IMO.

Hartlett & Edwards have shown in the preseason they can play, this is now their chance, and its the only way we will find out, but i'm confident they can, and i think RFC backline isn't fantastic so they should be good enough to test them, harts is tall and Edwards has hands as good as Fev.

Plue who will cover Fev, Bowden won't play on him, doesnt have the speed for it, it'll be Thursfield who is 16kgs lighter and only played 22 games plus one knee reco, so expect Fev to be strong, Bowden will play man in front, but Fev is smart enough (as its well prior to 4am) to find space.

Setanta i would expect to do most of the forward half rucking and Cloke to play that one kick behind once the centre ruck has been done. I'm also confident that the club wouldn't play Setanta unless he was ready, they would be stupid if they did, and they have shown that they aren't IMO.

When you compare the teams on paper, its all even apart from the middle, which is where it all starts...so i expect to grab the ascendancy there, not through Judd but more through guys like Murph, Gibbs, Simmo as i think RFC will be Judd and Stevens focused.

And if we don't have the depth to cover injuries against a team like Richmond then we aren't good enough anyway and would have a very hard season, which i don't think will happen.

Carlton by 4-5 goals.

I wasn't comparing Bannister to Russell.

Based on potential and what he would bring to the Carlton side, Russell would add more to the side than Bannister IF he developed as a supporter would hope. ;)

We need another HFF with speed and skill.

There shouldn't be any schadenfreude in Russell not being named.

Any side with a Bannister in it's best 22 at the end of 2008 is a terrible side and going nowhere fast.

In all honesty, and not because I have blue coloured glasses on, we are the superior team on paper. We absolutely own them in the midfield and on their half forward line. The media have rubbed our noses in it all week, it will be good to silence the ****s with what I think will be a 6 goal victory.

Chris Judd tells fans not to expect miracles
But it is the simmering discontent on several levels which brings added spice to the clash.

Judd will take on a Richmond side still adamant it had the better offer to lure the former Eagles captain.
Richmond football director Greg Miller has several times this pre-season hinted at interference from higher powers over West Coast's refusal to deal with the Tigers.

It was seen as crucial that Judd got to his preferred destination to ease the push for free agency, and the Eagles - with the spectre of penalties from the AFL over their drugs controversy - accepted the lower offer.

Richmond was willing to give up picks 2, 18 and 19, but Carlton gave 3, 20 and forward Josh Kennedy.

But Bartlett said Richmond were in the ......... ;) :D

You got owned Greg, move on.

Don't underestimate our backline if Thursfields can maintain the Fev and get the ball to the ground I'm confident we will easierly sweep it out of there. Newman will be our B&F this year and Kingy has improved even more from last season. Most dedicated player at our club and lead by example. Then of course bowdens down there and another good sweeper accoss the backline.

Your midfield though is stronger. But if Kane Johnson has one of his rare good games and Raines gets injured before the bounce there'll be not such a gap!

I tend to agree but take it to your own board. We don't really want to hear an argument about the merits of Raines on the Carlton board.

As for you earlier comments about Schultz, I can't say that anyone really fears him. Being tall doesn't make you a footy player.

Whilst I see what your saying, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record:

I think you're underestimating Banno - I can't recall him putting a foot wrong against the Bulldogs.

He's the big bodied mature runner, who fly's the flag.

Given that we have a team full of kids, we need him.

Raines is crap and has been since his first year! Shocking disposal. Best thing is his toughness but that ain't enough!

Gandaal don't worry about Schultz averages under a goal a game in 50 matches playing as a KPP.
Whats with Raines?

Everytime he gets the ball the first thing he does is look over his shoulder.

Judd, Stevens and co will rape Tuck, Johnson and Co.

Richo, Pettifer, Brown and co will rape Jamison, Thorton and Waite and co.

Therefor the only question is who will win the Richmond defensive/Carlton offensive battle

Yes, but do you recall every other game he's played for the Blues?

Has he put a foot right?

In all honesty...no, you dont.

Bad luck guys (seriously)...i think we'll both be down low this year, but we've both got a lot to look forward to...Judd should come good, Stevens is a gun, and youve got all the pick ones to improve, and we've got Foley, Tambling, Deledio etc.

I look forward to playing you guys in 4 or 5 years...hopefully in a grand final :)
