With the recent Winter Olympics I got to thinking about Olympic video games and was surprised to find that there hasn't been a tie in video game since London 2012

Is there any point in Olympic video games or does the 2-4 year gap between Olympics make these games a pointless endeavour ?

My sister and I smashed Sydney 2000 on PC loads. I loved the training and qualifying tournaments. Yes, people may see it as mindless button mashing (although the diving could be somewhat complex and the kayaking was impossible) but for whatever reason it was still super fun.

Yup remember the kayaking being impossible too - but the swimming got boring super quick - I remember it ended up being a game of how much head start you could give the PC field before mowing them down in the 100m freestyle.

There also used to be one on N64 where you had to move the joystick (which had that ridged top) in a circular motion to do the hammer throw - basically had to wear a glove to avoid carving great chunks out of your palm

I spent hours at the arcade across from my TAFE playing Hyper Olympics with my buddies instead of going to class. We got crazy good at it. That game was so simple, yet so challenging and fun.

I like them in general. I definitely don't hang out for a new one that often though. They're kinda once in a generation games.

Summer and Winter Games on the Atari were great for the time.
International Track and Field on PS1 was fun but High Jump can get ****ed.
Nagano on N64 was a sick game.
Torino on PS2 was a lot of fun.
Have Mario and Sonic at the 2008 Olympics and the 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2008 one is great, Winter Olympics one was a bit of a let down.

Like someone else mentioned, they're all about local multiplayer. Usually good to go through the single player a few times but not much more.

I smashed many world records in the running and swimming, I've never been able to button mash the same way since... and this was 20-ish years ago. Went back to the future and returned to Track & Field 1 & 2 on the NES...... couldn't do the same fast times I used to be able to do on those ones too.

I think the latest version of the winter games was an extension on Steep. not sure if it's still available though.

There was a Tiny Toons game on the SNES that was reminiscent of those Olympics games, in that it involved bulk button mashing in a few events. Was excellent.
Those tiny toons games were great. Tiny Toons ACME All stars with basketball and soccer and some other games was bloody great.
