Watching Brissy destroy the Saints on Friday night, after doing the same to every other challenger over the last 4 years, I was immediately struck by the insight that, if the Tigers were going to be a completely crap footy team, then we've picked the perfect little era to do so.

I mean, what could be worse than striking our purple patch - you know, that period someone once described as "approaching midnight" - whilst the Lions are just so dominant.

Notwithstanding our total over-achievement for the single year of 2001, when most of us agree the Tiges were MILES away despite finishing 3rd, the years 2001 - 2004 would not be a good time to "peak in your cycle".

That was best left up the Maggies, Port and to a lesser extent, the Bombers.

Glad to go through our horror patch when there was little chance of beating the Brissy super-team anyway ....

That's true GOJJ. When brisbane, port and essendon rebuild in a season or two we'll be in perfect time to take their place. Although look to geelong and StkIlda for good company.

Other bright spots are:

Our new found stability
Wallace and his new style.
The untapped potential on our list
The next batch of recruits

all good...my glass is always half full

I don't think brisbane will ever have to rebuild. They seem to bring in new players who are ready made.

That's what they said about Hawthorn, circa 1991.

It'll happen.

Just further on the "bright side" Tiger fans ...

Probably the two worst players for any participating club on the weekend were Ben Holland and Ben Haynes ...

Gotta laugh.

yeah would have to agree, dutchy was woeful. he did nothing, when the dees needed desperately for someone, anyone to take a big grab inside 50 he just wasnt there. haynes didnt do much either except turn the ball over, and sit on the bench.

As much as I despise them, over the past two decades, Essendon has been the most solid team when it comes to rebuilding. They seem to be going through a bit of a phase at the moment, yet are still alive week 2 in the finals. Most other sides have had to bottom out to some degree at one stage or another. I hope we haven't bottomed out for too long now, and this culture isn't engrained into our club. I still that Plough has a mighty big job on his hands.

The thing about essendon is that they develop their players a lot better than we do. They never get high draft picks like us yet make the finals every year. Hopefully the new coaching setup can start getting the most out of the players we draft.

They will go down like a ton of bricks in about 3-4 years . Look at the age of thier playing list . Voss , Lappin , Akermanis , Black , Scott bros , Leppa , Johnson , ( not to mention Lynch , Hart ,Pike, Mc Crae, White, Keating )

All heading to late 20`s or in thier 30`s .

You don`t replace that overnight . It will be interesting to see how they respond to thier aging list .

They will suffer from finishing so high up for so long by not having any decent kids come through .

if we won 5 flags in a row, (which they probly will) would you give a stuff if you had to suffer for a while?
No DT i wouldn`t give a stuff , my post was replying to IITB who was saying that he thought that Bris would not have to rebuild , i think they will

One flag would be enough for me not to give a stuff , imagine all the crap we could give to people who have given ,and continue to give, us for the last 20 years .

...................... AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH the possibilties
