Not an Adelaide supporter, but thought you may be interested in this snippet from today's Age (11/10/07).

However, Reid related one issue that was holding Adelaide back in trade negotiations - their refusal to discuss players they could not talk to or get a medical test for this week.
"We've had four or five we've spoken to," Reid said.
"One of the problems with trade week is we haven't got a lot of time, and one thing with our club is we won't recruit unless we've spoken to someone and had full medicals done.
"Some are in London or New York, so some names that have lobbed you say 'we'd like to have a crack at that', but they're not here, so we can't go down that process."

Seems reasonable to me and it always amazes me the number of players that are overseas during trade week, therefore unable to talk to prospective new coaches face to face, see facilities, have medicals etc.

im glad adelaide wont recruit a player unless full medicals are done. I would hate to see a Johnathon Hay type player recruited to AFC without knowing his full record. As hawthorn did to kangas...

that was a bit of a dirty tactic

Medicals don't uncover bi-polar depression. The Kangaroos did a medical on Hay. The only way way you could uncover this is with a full disclosure of his medical records, rather than an independent medical examination, which is what the clubs do. Even psych tests don't uncover this, it only becomes apparent by leak or if the player discloses it himself.

Errr....... When exactly would you want them to go on holidays?! These trips are planned in advance. Players plan them after the GF just in case they make it that far but they also need to keep in mind what if their season finished earlier and they need to get back to training by a certain date. So really there is only a genuine 2 week window where you can plan your holidays and they won't interfere with you football commitments.

Some clubs are back in training in a couple of weeks.
