I went to my very first Basketball game last night(Perth 104 d Cairns 97) with an american and i really really REALLY enjoyed it, i wish their games were shown on FTA. I've already planned to go again on the 3rd January V Townsville with some mates. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it nearly as much as i did.

However, the one thing that bothered me about the game was the fact that they played music during plays and at times made it look as if they were just out there for fun. Surely it puts the players off when they're in the middle of a play and there's victory music blaring in their ears???

Does this happen at all the NBL games as well as the NBA games or is it just a Wildcats thing?

happens in townsville at the swamp i know that much, pretty sure it it happens all across the league.it was brought in to get the crowd to get into the game, but yes it getting a bit ridiculous.especially when they keep on playing the "puppy power" jingle.

i stand to be corrected but i think the Phoenix Suns were the main culprits in bringing it into the NBA.Not sure if they do it in Europe,i think they just light fires in the stands.

good to see you enjoyed your self though

The music is pretty lame in the NBL, although the players are quite used to it by now.

Some of the interstate sides create some atmosphere (fuck all else to do in Perth and Adelaide), but on the whole it's ordinary.

The NBL is a joke without the Supercats :o

I've been to both Sydney Kings matches in the NBL (am actually a regular this year, and am really getting into it) as well as Vancouver Grizzlies matches in the NBA.

There is actually heaps more "Americanisms" at a Kings match than what I saw in Canada. Not only the court compare at Kings matches speaks with an exaggerated American accent, they play way too much music. And it is way too loud.

Interestingly on the Kings supporter forum <http://www.nbl.au.com> people have been sayiong the same thing. When both us (the new supporters group behind the basket called the "Baseline Bums") and the official Fanclub are trying to get chants going they put music on that shuts us up.

I know they are trying to create some atmosphere. But overkill is often worse than doing nothing at all.

They'd be better served making most of the Entertainment Centre unreserved seating and charging $12-15 for seats like most other sporting codes.

The days of Kings matches being hang-outs for prospective home-boys and yuppies are over. Australians will not accept the over-americanism of sport these days. Sport is NOT just entertainment, it is passion. Supporters should NEVER be drowned out by music. And music should really be used to incite crowd participation, not overwhelm it.

The 'Americanisms' drove me away from NBL games. Why can't we have Australian style cheer squads, chants et al rather than *****heads like Rodney O over the PA?

Mate, Rodney O has been replaced by.....(wait for it) Mr Cityrail Grant Goldman.

And not only is there an official Kings Fan Club (bunch of snobs, that lot!) and our new group the "Baseline Bums". We sing soccer songs, bang drums and cowbells. And wave flags, even waving them when the opponents are shooting for basket AFL-style.

Seriously, have a look at the NZ Breakers match on Friday night. You might be surprised how good it is.

You get out of something what you put into it.

If it's victory music, I'm sure there not complaining, as they've won.....

I haven't been to any games, only really started getting into the basketball this year. But now I'm a fanatic. I like how the NBA has the shot clock music how when the shot clock is counting down, and it's getting faster and faster. If I were in their situation it would make me more pumped for the shot, not a put off..... Dunno about other ppls views on it though.....

No offence, but hell will freeze over before I cheer for the Sydney Kings.
