Brian Lake is our only good tall player. How can a side expect to make top for 4 with 1 tall. West Coast have better talls than us! Nearly every side has better talls than us. Lets go through the list.

Lake: Hoepfully All Australian this year, need two of him

Rucks

Minson: Will only ever be an average hard at it ruckman who can kick, yet can't mark or even read the flight of the ball to the required level.
Hudson: Work horse ruckmen who provides a contest and good around the stoppages. Offers basically nothing around the ground.
Overall our rucks are poor to average compared to the up and coming mobile rucks of the opposition. Hopefully Cordy and Roughead can change that.

Williams: Average player who may develop a little but will never be the CHB we are waiting for.

Grant: Hope he gets a chance and hope he develops yet again unfortunately from what I have seen at Willy will never be the forward we are hoping for. The best of the best show something start away.

Tiller: Barely makes it as a tall yet plays hard at it yet a little slow. I would prefer him in the side than Williams.

None of the other talls are even worth talking about, thats how bad it is!!!

Hopefully some of the young KPP's can develop sooner or later. I would say it is imperative that a few of them can become extremely good players who can impact a game. How long that will take, it is hard to say. KPP's take a while to develop.

At present we can get by in the ruck and in defence, but our forward structure is an utter shambles. But I am not giving any groundbreaking revelation there.

Boumann shows signs

Grant doesn't

Cordy,Roughead and Jones are years away.

I knew we were in trouble when the midfielders were kicking it to Addison.

Lake's manager will be upping the price no doubt.

Lets face it the media have got it right and opposition coaches have Eade's game plan figured out.

We are stuffed.

Why cant Eade do what other teams that didnt have talls did PLAY THEIR YOUNG TALLS! All other teams have put their talls in early and developed them and we dont now were screwed!

Why, because its something the doggies have always done, young players seem to spend at least 3-4 years at the club before they are given a chance because we like to stick with the tried and proven older players, which in a fantasy world without injuries and aging would be good.

We are becoming a footballing version of the Australian cricket team where Waugh stuck with the same old players and then handed an ageing retiring team to Ponting to try and continue winning games with. From what I can remember the last time the doggies took a chance with a few young players with potential was Royal and Wallis and look how they went, since then players have had to stick around for years to wait their chance, and subsequently become jaded and disillusioned with the game (Cooney doesn't count as it seems an unwritten policy that clubs will always play the number 1 draft pick in his first year).

This year was supposed to be a tilt at the flag, so we had to go with experience. If, as it appears, we are going to bomb out, then the rebuilding can start next year. Hope everyone is prepared for us to be cellar dwellers again while these "young talls" (who all sound pretty raw to me :( ) develop over a period of years.

Collingwood palyed Dawes recently who at least took a strong pack mark, has some size about him and looks like he could hold down a forward KPP post.

Out of our youngsters do we have anyone at Williamstown or School we could throw in at AFL level.

Are we still years behind due to previous drafts of talls not developing ??

Your view of our ruck stock is woefully out of reality London. Our ruck duo is one of the best going around. Minson not being a good forward does not change his ruck work.

1)We thought we were a realistic chance for a flag, so didn't want to risk experimentation as we thought we could win the flag or get very close to it, with our established players.

2)Many of our talls(Roughhead, Jones and Cordy) are in their first year so arn't ready to play senior football yet. They don't have the necessary size to be able to hold down a key position post. Grant had OPP last year and played school football, so his match fitness was of a first year player. Not sure what the story with Boumann is.

3)Our selectors and football department are very conservative and are reluctant to throw new players in to the side, like say a Collingwood would do. We probably don't want to risk dropping ladder positions so we tend to go for the tried and true rather than take a risk with the brand new.

You will be missed Scott Clayton and your eye for talls....

He did pick Bradshaw and Craig Bolton and may have been around when Leppicht wad drafted. We all know his record with us in that area for us was appalling. Walsh, Wells and Wiggins were disasters and there has been very little to get excited about Grant so far.

IMO his major weakness was his obsession with picking really really skinny guy as KP players. Have a look at our list, Grant, Everitt, Boumann, Wight, Tiller, all of them are stick thin. I don't Cordy obviously.

Borgsta

The game has changed from these slow dinosaur rucks that do nothing around the ground. Have you seen Clarke from Brisbane, that’s the future.

They have there good points with strength and hard work yet both are limited.
