The tactics are going to be fascinating.

How do you think the Roos will go with the loss of Pruess who would of been first in line for a call up
Still think they will play Goldy solo or will bring in an extra tall to give a chop out?

Without knowing a lot about norths ruck and tall depth it’s a shame that maj won’t be playing for a while would of been great to have his versatility

Don't think Brayden will be any huge loss. We have Larkey, who is a much better natural footballer, primed to step in to the next KPF role.

Goldstein goes at 85+% game time and is an elite endurance ruckman. Naturally, Majak & Brown took up the rest of the time, but this year it will fall to Brown & McKay (201cms & ~ 100kgs). Tom Campbell also impressed in the recent intraclub and we won't lose much by swapping Preuss for him.

I expect Goldstein will go solo, with a chop out from Brown & McKay.

I think McKay would have come in anyway this year, he pretty much took the chocolates on all the VFL KPF's he played on last year, and Majak would have played more of a utility role, but predominately as a forward/ruck . I reckon he's perfect for this 6-6-6 stuff. Opposition defensive coaches would be having headaches with Majak strolling down there for centre clearances once one of the small/mediums came off.

You need to remember, we only play one true KPF in our forward line with a mix of strong marking tweeners (Ziebell, Wood, Garner) & a couple of smalls (Turner & Atley). We'll also rotate a lot of mids through half forward this year (Higgins, Hall, Cunnington)

Mmmm... Larkey and Mackay as tall key position players next year. North are going to get monstered with 2 young talls in their side next year.

Will change their structure and game style up no doubt.

Adding Tyson, Pittard, Hall, Polec to the mix means big changes to the side.

Be interesting to see how the team gels with such a big change.

Have you ever seen Ben McKay?

Larkey could do with another year of physical development, but he relies on smarts anyway. He's more of a Petrie build.

We'll have midfield run for a change, which will take a lot of the defensive pressure off our flankers & other mids and allow us to be more proactive.

Haha the old “show a photo of a player looking ripped to convince everyone he’s in for a huge year” trick won’t work on this board. Matty Arnott had us fooled for years.

That's not why I posted the photo.

I thought he meant you will struggle as a side if you introduce two young talls next season, hence “North will get monstered”. Maybe I interpreted it incorrectly, but I think he’s suggesting they won’t hit the ground running (as is the case for most young talls) and it will be detrimental to your team overall.

Okay. If that's the case then I have no qualms about McKay. He would have played in key defence for the entire season for a few other clubs in 2018.

He's ready to go, trust me on that.

Two tall key position players with less than a handful of games between them are going to get destroyed by experienced opponents.

It’s not that hard to understand.
Looking forward to seeing McKay on Tom Lynch or Josh Kennedy.

Young talls take time and they will lose more contests than they win when they’re just starting out.

McKay's not some green kid that we just picked up last November. He was drafted in 2015 and is the heir apparent to Robbie Tarrant. As for the whole "players need time to develop in the AFL" spiel, IMO, that's complete bullshit, and I regularly have debates with posters on the North board about that.

The kids ready, trust me. He plays AFL and gets torched bad you can call me out and I will return to wear it.

No way Absbury rotates key defence to ruck.

I agree. That bloke is the linchpin of your entire defence.

looks like the kinda bloke that'll be cooked 10 mins into a senior game

He ran sixth in our 2km time trial, which is not bad for a 201cm/100kg bloke who just turned 21. He has also trained with a personal running coach during his off season time for the past two years. The kids one of those manic training freaks. He's a sure bet who will play for the next 12 years unless injury intervenes. You have picked the wrong bloke for a wind up.

It’s not about torching posters.

I just think Larkey and McKays lack of AFL experience will be detrimental to North in 2019 if they choose to play both at key position.

Sure some players step right up, but key position players who do so are few and far between. There’s a big difference in keeping VFL players quiet vs Tom Hawkins or Josh Kennedy.

Same deal with Larkey. He could end up your next Sam Lloyd and kick a few goals this year. Or he could be your Liam McBean and just not have the traits to get there.

For both I’m sure they will be given the time to give it their best shot.

Its our biggest/important home and away game since we played Sydney round 23 2014 (the 9 in a row game). Massive crowd, probably the debut of Tom Lynch in Tigers Colours and the incentive of revenge from last year. Absolutely huge if we get up.

Just get some forensic accountants to investigate Collingwood's salary cap and Richmond will be awarded the 4 points by default.

I have noticed there has been some good chat and posts about opposition clubs in our pre season thread so I thought we should create an Opposition Analysis thread so it all has a place to live as the discussion was very good.

This isn't a place to shit can opposition clubs / players, this is a place to discuss other teams lists / game plans and how it might effect us etc.

Opposition supporters are more than welcome as long as it is kept civil and clean (which it had been in the other thread)

Any delibrate trolling will cop a thread ban e.g Pies have injuries, lolnorf, druggos etc etc. Keep it to proper footy talk please.

So is this the thread that opposition posters come in to talk about their opinions of Richmond? Serious question.
I don't mind that. I always find it interesting how oppos rate our players. Not many of them rate Lambo and Grimes to name a couple, although Grimes is starting to get noticed.

I think its definitely open to that if that is where the conversation goes.

As long as it is all civil and constructive.

My initial thoughts were more surrounding if people are wanting to discuss other teams lists, how player X will cope in the new rules, or how player Y has been going in pre season etc, its a forum for those opposition posters to reply and discuss footy in general.

Its been very civil actually. Well done everyone

Thanks. In adding I would state that I don't carry on at the opposition boards, I go there to get & give useful information, so I don't understand why a few folks (on all opposition boards) would bomb their own board with wind up posts. It's akin to crapping in your own loungeroom. If you want to have a crack at me personally, then by all means take it to the Bay. If it's somewhat original or humorous I might even reply. If you ever have a footy/North related question then fire away, I am happy to oblige. Thanks again, I'll recede in to the background now.
