My god how hard is it to just get my god damn phone of 4 years or so out of dad's name and into mine??? Was absolutely livid trying to get this done almost 3 months ago and being rejected. Got told i had to get a credit card well i got one with a $2,500 limit (which means i obviously have a salary high enough to cover my p1ssy little 30 dollar a month phone bill) So i go back today with my credit card and get told oh sorry you cant do credit checks with Optus more than once in 3 months had you come back just one week later we would have accepted it. In other words now i would have to wait another 3 months from today now just to put the frikken thing in my name.

Telstra here i come!

Optus **** me off, big time. I spent a week up on the East Coast of Tasmania and for the whole week, I could not get a signal on my phone. It was completely out of range, but my husband who has a Telstra phone had no problem at all! When I got back I had tons of messages and a lot of missed calls. And to think I changed from Telstra to Optus. Ironic, isn't it?

Likewise. Will be changing back now as its probably about time i got a new phone anyway. You would think common business sense would tell them to just let it through as i am no longer on a contract. Gawd at this rate if i stay with them i'll be moved out and they'll be still sending my bills to daddy!

...oh and the my husband instead of my fiance sounds kewl doesn't it ;)

I was with Optus for a few prepaid phones a few years back. Calls would disconnect 75% of the time, practically no signal indoors, customer service would put you on hold for a minimum of 40 minutes, a price rise every couple of months and free time was useless because "all the lines in your area are busy".

Optus have a reputation of being cheap, but therein lies the problem : they're cheap, not necessarily inexpensive.

What are you all complaining about?

Optus is a fine professional organisation, with an emphasis on effective customer service and reliablity.

I can make these claims from my own wonderful experiences, which include:

- Making 8, I repeat EIGHT attempts to make my voicemail work on my mobile;

- Being unavailable at Jervis Bay when I needed it - Xmas fires before last and we'd just been told to be ready for evacuation to the beach; and

- Being regularly unavailable in Glebe, two or three suburbs from the city.

A world class phone company!

Actually I should point out that my negative experiences with Optus relate ONLY to mobile phone services. For home phone and internet services, I have never had reason to make any enquiry or complaint calls, and my internet connection never mysteriously cuts out like it used to with Primus.

Am I the only one who hasn't had trouble with Optus? When we lived in the hills we had no service at all with Telstra but were able to use Optus mobiles. As far as billing and anything else goes I have never had a problem.

Well I have an Optus prepaid mobile, and haven't had too many problems with being out of range or anything like that, but calls drop out a lot and stuff.

I had my home phone with Optus and there was something wrong with the line and every few months it would just die and they would have to come out and fix it. (We've had a Telstra line in the house too and no such problem). And they were VERY unhelpful if I had trouble paying my bill or anything then threatened to cut me off so I said fine you do that. :D lol

Well, they've been ****ing me off lately. I can't seem to get through to anyone as easily as I'd like to. I have the 'network busy' or 'error in connection' signal come up alot, it ****s me so much I almost throw my phone out the window... I'm thinking of going telstra.

Although thanks to Optus I have a months worth of free sms' cos of my 3 year anniversary with them. :D

I got a prepaid kit a few weeks ago and the guy at the shop said he'd activate it and i would have to wait 2 hrs till i could use it.

After 3 hrs i tried and it wouldnt work, it would just beep at me. I then tried ringing my phone with the house phone and it said that it had been disconnected. 1/2 hr later i tried ringing the house phone with my mobile again and it said i had insufficient credit.

I rang up optus and they said the credit hadn't gone through properly but they would do it. I got over it because it was fixed and told my friend the next day. She said the exact same thing had happened to her. What a scam!

I remember my first optus contract. Supposed to waive the initial $65 fee in a well-publicised promotion. Had to call up to get it wiped when it appeared on my bill. My brother got one around the same time and had to do the same. It seems they were just adding the $ and only removing it when the customer complained.

I activated mine myself. I came home and put it in the phone, rang up and they connected me within 15 minutes with no problems. I guess I must be lucky to never have a problem with them.

I cant believe you people. Telstra is the biggest CRAPPIEST COMPANY. Optus is actually DAM GOOD IN MELBOURNE! And they give you your dams money worth. You get free chat, and they actually care for the people. I have both telstra and optus pre-paid simcards, and both have the same coverage in the area's i need to go. So now since telstra got rid of L8Chat, its time to say bye bye to telstra.

I dont know why you complain about optus. Telstra dont care about the people.

I agree about the money's worth. Telstra don't seem to offer any incentive to go with them. I can call any Optus mobile from 8pm to midnight every night for 20 minutes free, any mobile all weekend @ 20c for 10 mins, and any mobile from 7pm to 7am every night @ 22c for 10 minutes. I save so much money with them.

I did mine on the way to work one morning, was hoping it wouldn't take too long since I had to start in 15 mins, it was connected and working in just over 10 minutes I was very impressed. :)

100 bucks off if u change from optus, free x box, free sony discman as well as a digital camera. I'd call that incentives!

Given they are now a Singapore company, their management will need to find their feet in an environment where there is actual competition and you can't rely on nepotistic bail outs from the Lee family.
