As a Geelong supporter I'm very grateful for his time at Geelong, he basically won us a VFL premiership

Bit surprised we delisted him - club must be planning to draft another young ruck or trade for one, not sure they'd be giving Maric's cousin Ivan Soldo regular games and with only Hampson, Griffiths, Vickery and McBean outside of Maric (none of whom are pure rucks) we could use a bit of depth.

Happy he got 7(?) games for us to go with his Geelong tally. Hope he gets picked up :thumbsu:

Maybe the lions should target him. Our new motto is 'you cant have enough ruckman'.

Then why is Luey (reportedly) thinking of leaving West is Ryder goes to the Lions ???

Back on topic, I would rather coax Cox out of retirement, offering him a ruck coach/senior spot (and getting him to 300 games) than recruiting Orrenson

How old is he now? 31? Too old.

It wasn't long ago people were laughing at Geelong for recruiting a 28 year old JPod. Even this year he's been serviceable at Adelaide.
If Orren had been a banged-up AFL ruck all his career maybe 31 would be too old. But he seems to be a sprightly and fresh type.

Geelong let him go because they seemed to be well-stocked with rucks at the time especially after bringing in Blicavs.
Richmond probably feels that McBean is ready to step up.

I think his value is as a rookie - insurance policy just like Ben Hudson. He'd help the VFL side as well.

From my limited observation of him, he just didn't have enough presence around the ground to make it at AFL level (others will have more knowledge than me on this). And with the sub rule and interchange cap, coaches want all-rounders in the ruck rather than just pure tap ruckmen. Hence why Cam Wood was preferred to Warnock.

Yeh that's fair. Just feel like most clubs would go for a younger ruck if all they want is insurance for injury. But hey, I've been wrong before so good luck to him.

Oh yeah because Jay Clarke say's so it must be true Leuey would be highly sort over though.

This guy has just been
delisted. Would any club go after him as a big bodied ruckman crash and bash style?

I personally think Orro is a player a club should look at. Hopefully we can get him!

Suggested the same thing on the Collingwood forum and was quickly shut down. He'd be a quick fill in for Witts/Grundy/White. Throw any of those three forward and you've got a ruck. Rookie him and I would be happy.

Apparently he killed it in the VFL, too many ruckman on our list but you'd definitely think the Pies would take a look if Cox isn't available

McBean isnt and never will be a ruck. He is a 200cm small/medium forward (serious).

What cavity did you pull that one from?

I'll take your word for it given that I haven't really seen him play. I thought he had been recruited as a ruck with great below the knees ground skills. It sounds like he doesn't have much skill above his head.

He's okay above his head, not a massive strength though. Very good though at ground level and on the lead. He doesnt have the frame to be an AFL ruck. Not sure if his small forward skills will work at AFL level. If they do, he will be one of the more unique players in the AFL.

Maric and Vickery in the seniors. Hampson and Griffiths in the reserves. McBean can be back up ruck if there's one injury. Cousin Ivan in the VFL as well. Plus what happened to Todd Elton. I think you're stocked. As soon as you got Hampson I don't think you needed to waste a list spot on big O. Could've tried a kid for 12 months.

Collingwood (Hudson role), Essendon (if Ryder leaves and they don't get a ready made back up), Adelaide (do they even have a second ruck) I guess are some teams who'd think about him.

But team are probably better off looking at someone like Derickx or Cam Wood who are around 25, 26 and could have more upside and more long term value.

Our list is in a pretty interesting position at the moment, at least in terms of rucks. There are options available, it's just a question of whether any of them are capable of filling Maric's role in the side if he's unavailable (he's such an influential player for us and made a big difference when he came back from injury in the second half of the season).

Not sure what the club are planning with Vickery next season but this year, they wanted him to be more of a permanent forward. Griffiths had a breakout year and hopefully can continue to build on his form this year - not sure if we can play both Vickery and Griffiths together without being too tall. Neither though look like they would be able to step up as number 1 ruck if Maric suffers injuries (and with his groin needing to be carefully managed, could potentially miss the occasion game here and there).

McBean's very slight and probably would get monstered in the ruck at AFL level - from most accounts, he's more like a crumbing small forward in a 200cm ruckman's body!

Ivan Soldo is pretty raw (think he only played his first few games late this year) and will probably be 3-4 years away as he learns the game, certainly has the size about him though! Elton's the interesting one. He's a former early draft pick who hasn't done much of note so far. Think he might be on the short side to ruck but maybe could be another pinch hitter? Next season is probably make or break for him, needs to show something. Hampson's a great tap ruck but is pretty useless around the ground unfortunately. Would love to trade him out for Ryder if we could but can't see that happening sadly.
