Obviously all of us, except 1, want Port to get hammered. IMO the weather will have the major say on who wins this one.
Dry GF:
If it's dry I think Port will win easily. Their multitude of quick, receiver types will run The Cats off their legs. Port also have better talls than the Cats and this will be an imprtant factor if its a dry day. Playing King instead of Blake is a great move by the Cats. However, without Egan and with the underperforming N Ablett, Port have a hefty advantage in height. N Ablett will almost be a liability. The cats will have wished they got more gametime into the big bodied Hawkins as they will be undermaned in the big men department.
If its dry, Port by 27 points.
Wet GF:
Ports height advantage will be negated somewhat. Although, Geelongs runners are not as pacey as Ports, their runners are more in and under types which will be a huge advantage in these conditions. If it does rain, and I hope it does, the loss of Wilson will be huge. His hardness and aggression at the contest will be greatly missed. If it's wet, Geelong by 9 points.
Thoughts.
Should have taken your advice on when to book the GF ticket as I ended up missing out, well thems the breaks.
However you are more confident than me young SC. I am confident we will win as we have been improving with each and every game for about 2 to 3 months now whereas Geelong have been playing at the same high level since about round 4 or 5 but has not improved for a while, although it is harder to improve when playing at such a high level to begin with.
wrt today I am confident of giving it an almighty shake and IMO the Geelong people and Melbourne media and public are grossly underestimating us.
Geelong finished 1st and in the last 6 weeks they beat the teams that finished the home and away season in fourth place twice, 6th, 10th and dropped a game against the 2nd place getter.
We finished the H&A season 2nd and in the same period we have beaten the teams that finished the home and away season 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 11th.
This is where my wishful thinking leads me to believe we different a different proposition to Geelong 1995 and Melbourne in 2000.
ps Springy, you can officially delete that bookmark now. Sorry mate but chances to brag do not come around that often.
Also not sure of the dry favours either team as both play their best in the dry, but yes I agree that the wet would suit Geelong, not because they grow another leg or such but it would degrade our game more then it would theirs, if that makes sense.
