Ottens worth too much?

If Richmond footy club want to much for Ottens - by the look of it they do and Thompson stating things like 'I dont enjoy my footy anymore' then is not a good idea to start looking at the third option Whitnall?

With his injuries and lack of condition too he may actually come cheaper too - maybe round one plus Spriggs.

Geelong has some backups in the ruck with Mooney, Loats, Chambers, Blake and Playfair so there are options there - maybe the big lump could play exclusively out of the goal square? He could also be a handy backup for the backline too.

A win-win situation, IMO. Keeps the team balance in check, and offers a couple of potential options up forward.

I'd be prepared to get Whitnall if Ottens cost us to much. I'd rather Thompson but the Hawks like the Tigers will won't too much for him.

I reckon he'd only cost us pick 16 so we'd keep all our young talent and hopefully Loris could get the best out of him.

As you said nana we could then look at trading for a young KF like Damon White or a back up defender like Saddington

PS Sam Hunt is a dud and will get de-listed by ESS anyway

But that will be re-jigged. Either Carlton will pay part, which is almost commonplace these days, or Geelong will extend Lance's current contract further and even it out to a much more acceptable lpay evel. Lance will know this is his last chance

I think Whitnall is the least pain option. Forget the money.If we take him and his full contractually obligation of Carltons hands, which is in our tpp abilities, we could get him for something like R2 + Spriggs and Rooke.
We keep our R1 pick, lighten our player list problem with only having to delist Rahilly and Foster to meet draft requirements.
If other players pop up we will then be in a position to swap our R1 pick and or another player for them.
Ottens is still my pref. because he gives our rucks a boost but I think as a forward , Whitnall is superior to both Ottens and Thompson. Hes the only one to have kicked a big amount in one season.The only thing is motivation. If he can get right upstairs and I mean single minded dedication to the cause then we can get him right down stairs.If to this level he could give us up to 2 goals more a week.2 goals in every match would have put us in the top 2 teams and in a grand final.
He could be a buffer and give Lonergan and the rest a bit more time to step up and take over from Benny.

Our main problem this year has been our accuracy in front of goal. Graham, Kingsley, Haynes, Gardiner, McCarthy, have all been shocking in front of goal. Kingsley has kicked only half of his shots at goal, that is not good enough, we have made big inroads in marking (still not quite there yet) and tackling in the forward 50, we need a kicking coach.
