give the ,man a cigar....the tiges were keen on salopek the year that we gave the punt rd grandstand for Kane J...and thats ok ...

Id take that offer as fair value...as the likes of Essendon will really throw down the gauntlet to keep him in Melbourne ...dont forget avaerage Joe Danny Jacobs went for the No 6 pick+ Alvey...which I thought was most generous...so you be the judge on what a gilt edged big man is worth albeit in ordinary form in an ordinary side

1. Sheedy tends to be a genious come trading time. How often does Essendon lose on trade &/or become involved as a 3rd party to make another trade happen?

2. Value of trade picks depends on the strength of the draft & supply/demand for particular types of players.

Yep 24, and he's done nothing for about three years in what should be the prime of career.

I wouldn't be trading one of the competitions best young midfielders for that.

lets recap shall we

2001 all australian
2002 crap year
2003 back surgery...started in r 15...palyed well in last month
2004..is fit played well r1 and like rest of side has been average Joe...at 24 , I wouldn't think that his best was beyond him...for petes sake Gherig recaptured his best form at 28-29

Take the rose colored glasses off on your assesmsnt of salopek...he hasn't arrived yet and is some way off ever being capped as an all aust class...a straight swap would be fair and still speculative on our part...with Otto every chance to play out until 31-32

Who in the hell thought he'd arguably be the pound for pound winner - when judging individual worth, overall career longevity and consistency - in the Wellman/Jarman/Salmon (+a thousand draft picks and lesser players) deal.

Would perhaps be worth doing if Port could then trade for a ready made quality onballer to have a tilt at the premiership. BTW, would be better off offering the Tigers a defender such as Chaplin, as they are in need of tall defenders.
So are we. We've managed to draft what we need for the future; trading that away without a truly exceptional deal would just be foolishness.

You Richmond fans, if you reckon you can get Salopek and a first round pick for Ottens, then I suggest you pat yourselves on the back and recruit Brad Ottens, a player worth Salopek and a first round pick. Don't forget to give him another pay raise so you can keep up the cap trouble too.

So his best form is interspersed with "crap year"s and injuries. So I ask again, why would you trade for that?

And no rose coloured glasses here; I don't support either team.

I wouldnt say salopek and r1 pick considering he was a top 10 himself...prob player and 2 or third r pick...depends on the competition from rival vic clubs and there wont be any shortage of offers from the likes of ESS, Carl, Hawthorn, Geel, stkilda....Sadly I think he will go and we should use it like the saints did with everitt and Hall and get early picks or classy youngsters...Given that there wont be too many teams finishing below us we can pick off a good deal...or he turns himself to the draft where we pick him up again...(unlkely)

I tend to think that Richmond absolutely need to trade someone, as they have bugger all depth and too many overpaid players. As a Port fan I can tell you quite definitely that you're about to enter a buyer's market if you want to offload pricetag players...especially homesick ones.

One AA guernsey a few seasons ago means nothing - just ask Jonathon Hay and Matthew Richardson.

That CV you've posted is far from a convincing argument.

I dont agree as there is nothing forcing us to trade to an SA side given the likelihood of us finshing many rungs below which rules out a player using the three card trick of bluffing to walk the plank into the draft...the competition for a gilt edged tall albeit a little tarnished but still tender in age will be fierce...which all adds up to a sellers domain

a buyers market is when a player a'la stevens says I wanna go home , and the bottom 8 sides are all Melb based...err tough to bargain there

Well if you reckon you can gouge out a good deal, good luck to you, but I very much doubt it will involve sending Ottens to South Australia. Maybe see if Melbourne have some more room for cast-offs.

sounds like you guys dont rate him that highly and I can see why...he has all the talent in the world...give him the heart of a Primus or Jon Brown and he would be a top5 league player unfort thats not the case and like Jeff white tends to coast along ...thats why I reckon we should use him to change our own mix and cast him aside...Im certain he would prove us wrong with a severe turnaround given his talent....I also wouldnt discount a new coach coming in and thinking hang on we need Otto

either way I'm extremely confident that we would leverage a good deal should we part ways

I do but if I had a choice between Salopek and Ebert I would pick the son of a gun.

As I would Stiffy.

He's a complete package is young SOG. Apart from having good skills etc he is a tough little bugger, does all the hard yards like chasing and tackling and is a real team man.

At this stage Salopek has a good attacking game, but his defensive game is almost non-existent.

Young Ebert by a comfortable margin for mine.

You don't rate Sala?

I think he looks a likely type, might prove to be very good.

but he's not yet one of the premier young midfielders in the comp imo.
I think we're getting ahead of ourselves that's all.

Yes, more than a fair point, depends on what angle one comes from, but the draft is all about potential and at only just 18 he has absolute bucketloads of that.
Better than Ebert at the same age? I have only just seen Ebert in action, but by all reports, yes.
So if anybody wants him they need big pockets, as he will cost plenty.

Not a fan ;)

At that size he should be a ruck prospect but he HATES playing in the ruck and wants to play CHF even tho he is not really good at it.

Been doing it pretty well though.
