aint many top defenders under 24. forwards can come on young but defenders 90% of the time take time to reach their peak. patience is required

Gwon is still too small, and he would have put on bulk by now if he was going to. Saw him the other week in a restaurant and he did not stand out from the crowd physically at all, whereas most AFL KPP do.

? -- Rance -- Grimes
Newman -- ? -- Batchelor

Rance - Last week was the turning point for him i hope. Hes strong enough to go with other FF and courageous as anything. Also can provide good run ala Scarlett and make his opponent accountable.

Grimes - I think he can be an ideal third tall, especially for Ruckman pushing forward with his height. Im comparing him to Dustin Fletcher with those long arms and plenty of one percenters.

Newman - Nuff said, fantastic running half back.

Batchelor - Composed half back, newman #2

The problem for me is we dont have a good small defender, a lock down small defender and as such we are continually getting cut up by smalls like milne/betts. Farmer is not fast enough and Houli is too attacking for this role. Must recruit in this area.

Center half back - Hopefully it can be Astbury, it certainly cant be Mcguane long term. Mcguane is just prone to too many brain fades and ill-disciplined free kicks.

As for Moore, i rate him as a player but i believe hes to small to go with key forwards and not agile to enough to go with the smalls AND not attacking enough to play half back.

well i no longer have a need to shut my eyes when we have a kick out - surely thats an improvement?

Our defence has leaked alot, but they are still doing pretty good i reckon. As long as our forwards are doing their job at the other end - we have a pretty high Points for tally that equals our the PAgainst.

1. No. Either is Nathan Brown who played full back in a premierhsip
2. Yes. He's very good on 2m forwards
3. Yes and he will improve his deficiences

A champion team isn't made of champion players. Mcguane probably makes 1 mistake per week but he will remove this from his game once he hits 100 games or so. He's an excellent stopper who can panic a bit with the ball in his hand. But he actually has a nice kick on him and with experience he'll be confident with the ball and be making full use of his kicking. Another year or 2 he'll be a quality defender. Brian Lake was never talked about until he hit 25 or 26

Nathan Brown is a far, far better player already than McGuane has ever been. He beat great forwards all last year, and Nick Riewoldt comprehensively practically twice, do you seriously think McGuane would have been able to do that?

Wow. He's very good on 2m forwards? He struggles bigtime. Gets outbodied constantly, can't reach to effect the spoil, ends up giving away a free, etc etc.

He's 24 and doesn't have the body or skills to improve his deficiencies if you ask me.

He makes one mistake per week? Is that a joke? Great defenders make probably around 3 clangers a game. McGuane would be well above that, whether it's giving away a free in a marking contest, getting caught HTB, or missing a target.

Brian Lake had the footskills, body and potential to improve. I cannot see this in McGuane.

I can't fathom your unconditional support for certain players based on so little.
