With one small change was last night's starting line-up our best possible 22?

Let's say Selwood was included and Byrnes was omitted (Prismall stays in), I could not think of anyone else on our list who would do a better job than the players in their positions last night.

Hawkins has more potential than Lonergan, but Lonergan is in better form at the moment. Taylor and Mumford will be good in years to come but not for season '08.

As such would it be agreed that has Selwood played, last night was our best possible line-up?

Selwood replaces Prismal and Hunt replaces byrnes!
Hunt would have been very handy last night on the two small forwards.

There is no way Lonergan is in our best 22 in front of Hawkins and Gamble.

NO WAY! not on a performance basis.

Hawkins, Hunt and Selwood.

In replacement of

Lonergan, Prismall and Varcoe.

Harley in your best 22 Martyk:rolleyes:

i doubt he would let him carry the drinks....

IMHO, Hawkins hasn't done much to write home about yet. I think he will be fantastic given time, but certainly hasn't set the world alight. Loners is doing a fine job, as has Gamble when given the chance....

My best 22 would be:

B: Tom Harley, Matthew Scarlett, Andrew Mackie
HB: Darren Milburn, Matthew Egan, Corey Enright
C: Joel Selwood, Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel
HF: Steve Johnson, Cameron Mooney, Mathew Stokes
F: Paul Chapman, Tom Lonergan, James Kelly
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Corey, Gary Ablett
I/C: Mark Blake, Josh Hunt, Max Rooke, David Wojcinski

I think Lonergan has presented best of the guys we have tried there this year in lieu of Nablett....but hey, happy to see Hawkins in there too, just think he needs another year or so of experience.

Only 2 key defenders in the back 6 doesn't cut it for me. I would start Hunt on the ground and rotate Mackie, Enright and Wojcinski. This is one issue we are facing with Scarlett absent that isn't given enough discussion.

Enright, Mackie, Harley, Milburn(can do it, but to valuable setting up) and Wojcinski are not key defenders. That back 6 right there is too tall and would have issues with many teams at this time, the biggest being Collingwood. They would run rings around that back 6. I would start Harley on the pine for Wojcinski and Hunt on for Mackie.

Apart from that your side is what I would have. Dam I wish Egan and Scarlett were both playing, even though it actually makes Mackie and Harley look like great players, even though in reality they aren't. :D

With everyone uninjured?

B: J.Hunt M.Scarlett T.Harley
HB: D.Milburn M.Egan A.Mackie
C: J.Corey C.Ling C.Enright
HF: J.Kelly P.Chapman M.Stokes
F: S.Johnson C.Mooney T.Lonergan
R: B.Ottens J.Bartel G.Ablett
Int: M.Blake J.Selwood M.Rooke D.Wojcinski

That forward line is how it tends to line up. I do like seeing Byrnes in the side but I just can't fit him in. Ditto Prismall and Varcoe.

How the F*CK is Lonergan in our best 22?? Please explain? He's done nothing!! Gamble and Hawkins have every right before him to be there. Just because Lonergan is currently getting a game, that means he's in our best 22?? NO WAY!

Gamble had 1 bad game against the Pies (whole team played garbage). Lonergan won't last at AFL level, I can't believe more people can't see that. The bloke is popular, thats great... consolation will only get you so far. Gamble is tougher, harder, better mark, better kick... list goes on. Hawkins player some exceptional football earlier this year also. Please explain.

Ease up mate it's just an opinion. At the moment I think he offers more being able to go back as well as forward. Hawkins will overtake him soon and they'll probably be in and out all over the year. But at the moment I'd prefer Lonergan. I don't really rate Gamble that highly. Medium forward, plays well sometimes but would like to see him work harder.
