So who should play there??

I reckon Jakovich. He is becoming a joke at CHB but might be useful at CHF, even if to just take a tall defender away from Cummings, Wilson and Siera.

He certainly does have the size and build to play there. And apparently when the eagles recruited him he was a CHF, only Malthouse switched him back to CHB.

Only other candidate would be Siera, though i would like to see him on the flanks. He's too good to be wasted in the forward line, he's much better being a free roaming forward/midfielder. Sort of Lloyd style - not that i'm comparing them

The only time Jakovich wasn't good at CHB was last week and I think that we can say that came down to match fitness. We have allready tried him at CHF and it just doesn't work. I think we need to develop a young player into the position if the team is to become strong again. Sierra could take the bulk of the play and Gaspar or Green could be apprentices and gradually take over. We really do need to solve the problem though and making an existing player do it is not the solution.

Good topic! Jakovich has been a wonderful player for the club but with age getting the better of him, It's not getting any easier for him to play CHB against some of the more faster CHF's at the moment. His key is his strength - he uses it to his advantage to win 1/1 contests. I think he should stay in his usual spot in the backline for now - Judge did move him up forward a few times last year and he kicked a couple of goals which he enjoyed. But I can't see a move for him to CHF.

After one bad game you think Jako has to be moved from CHB!! C'mon hes been there his entire career, im sure he knows how to play that position. I am VERY confident with Jakovich at CHB so i see no reason to play him forward.

CHF is a big problem though, McDougall, Seira, Wilson and prolly a few others could all play the position but what we need is someone who can DOMNATE the position like a Hird or a Whitnall. This is a big problem, we have a great midfield, a pretty good defence and a steady forward line with Cummings, Matera bros, Merenda, Wilson and many others able to score goals. But to score goals we need to go past CHF and that will be a big problem until we find someone who is good enough to hold down that position.

Ok I mentioned in my previous post that we should develop a youngster into a CHF. Young players on the current list that I believe could make an impact there are (in order of potential):

Travis Gaspar
Andrew McDougall
Andrew Embley
David Haynes
Andrew McCarrey
Zac Beeck

They are all 188 cm and above players so all are tall enough and have good leaps. A couple still need to bulk up a bit however before they could play there. Of the ones listed above I think that Embley, Gaspar and Haynes should all be trialing at CHF now and KJ should come to the decision which player will make the grade. That player then can gradually be played there alongside Sierra.

On another note, whilst CHF is not set up now but looks to be in the future, what about CHB. Jakovich won't last many more years as to be effective he has to be very fit. Who do you think WC are developing to take over his position? Glass immediately springs to mind but he might not be big enough. Carroll could also be another option...what does everyone else think?

C'mon people, you have to admit jakovich has been playing loosely at CHB for a while now. Opposition coaches used to try and take him out of the game by using decoys on him, not anymore. He is no longer a feared CHB. He seems to have lost his ability to spoil and rarely wins the ball by himself prefering to get a hand pass. And with all CHF now being big AND mobile jakovich has trouble keeping up with them.

The new look CHB will be more like Glass, tall, mobile, fast and good ground skills.

I suggested using Jako at CHF as he is big and knows how to mark. And because he won't have to worry about following his opponent a lack of skills like speed and mobility won't effect his game.

We should develop someone else for CHB, maybe McDougall.

Ohhh, and don't say "but he won the B&F last year", because that was last year when all our stars were out injured so there was no one to really contest the award.

Don't get me wrong, the guy has been my favourite player for a while now, but fact is he is ageing.

Jakovich is the kind of CHB to take on the likes of Carey etc. But CHF's nowadays are faster and more mobile and thats where Jako falls down

I think for the moment he should stay in the backline but if he starts getting beaten more and more often then he should move forward and that way you can guarantee that he'll pick up good/reasonable defender and take some of the pressure off Cummings and co..

Jako was sensational and fast at the end of last season. He was badly injured during a cricket match in the summer and needs time to regain speed. What he had lost was his mobility in turning, following his knee reconstruction but it improved dramatically last year. He is a great CHB but has looked poor every time any coach has put him at CHF. It is not his position. I reckon he was brought up defending in his back yeard against his brother Alan.
CHF has always been a problem. We thought it was fixed with Spinx then Fewster but none succeeded. Mitch White was really a flank half forward, he would have been dynamite with a Carey alongside.
I would stick with Sierra and groom Antonowitz or Hunter.. Gasper will play defence.
