How good was the set up today.

Every time we got into space and took it up the ground with no pressure.

Wheatleys kicking was superb

Our kick ins are a massive barometer, if they are working we usually win, look what happened in the 2nd quarter, kick ins struggled and we struggled. Wheatley was great and Bate, Davey, Johnson and macca particularly worked very hard to get the ball.

as good as they looked collingwood had a terrible structure, trying to go man on man in the huddle did not work and i dont think other teams will employ this tactic

I know what you mean HBG, I was surprised they didn't start zoning off when we kicked in.
Wheatley though is very good when it comes to kicking in, easily the best at the club.

Our kickins are normally terrible. Trav either kicks a risky one to someone 40 metres out in the middle of the 50 or a little dinky kick to the pocket that does nothing. Why can't we get Wheatley roosting it down the throat of someone 60 out more often?

We have to encourage the quick kick in as well, there are still times when you can get a quick break. Wheatley is very good though, Whelan is steady, TJ is too outrageous, Carroll is suicidal.

The huddle can only work if the opposition allows it, and Collingwood did today. They should have at least had one man zoning off on either side of the huddle, standing on the 50m line. The players they had in the huddle weren't tight enough and we were able to get space easily.

You're missing the key ingredient. More important than Wheatley's accuracy & more important than any tactical set-up. Finally a few blokes are taking a bit of responsibility & saying I want the bloody footy. Kick it to me.

The best of delivery & the best tactical nouse all count for nothing if you don't have that. It's long overdue

Collingwood were terrible in that area yesterday.

It was so obvious to work out what we were doing, we had a huddle, and had someone break off to receive the kick. It's not rocket science.
Collingwood should have done better to stop the huddle from breaking up.

Having said that, having someone in the backline who can kick accurately 60m+ (Wheatley), REALLY helps. He should get a game even if only to take the kick-ins.
