I know im not the only here that thinks we suck at bringing the ball back into play from kick in's. Today it got even worse as time after time we went long to the boundary to Gardiner, now usually this isnt a bad play but when he has Primus on him and then Lade and French and Cornes with Francou, Stevens, Schofield, Burgoyne and Wanganeen at the drop of the ball....DONT KICK IT TOO HIM!!! :D Ok so i embellished a bit but time after time today Gardy had to beat two players for the mark.

I also have problems with who is doing the kick in's, Wooden and Taylor? I dont think so...bring back Peter Matera, not only does he have fantastic skills, he has great judgement and if he has to go long he can kick the ball a long way. If Matera is unavailable give the ball to Wirrpunda, he also has fantastic skills and if he wants to kick it to himself and run with it, let him...he's very good at that!

We need more movement, the zones can be beaten and we need to be patient enough to just wait for an option. Too often we just settle for Gardiner or Jakovich near the boundary line. More often than not it goes out of play and they get a boundary throw in on there 50 metre arc in prime position to score? MOVE PEOPLE MOVE!

I think our kick in's is one of our major problems so far this year and if we can start bringing it out of defence with less trouble then we will be a much better side for it....i watched Port move the ball from a kick in to Tredrea's chest without an Eagle even touching a Port player or the ball. We need to be able to do that to win games.

Any thoughts on what we can do about our kick in's?

I think we are improving in that area - yesterday had fewer clangers than the previous two away games.

Whoever kicks in - the players up the ground need to present a target by moving. Then the designated kicker needs to take a safe option - yesterday, that meant avoiding Primus and Cornes.

They are only using the long bomb as a last resort now, which is good.

It's certainly not a job I'd want - I'm terrified whenever there's a kick-out!

I think it'll be ok over time.

If I were Woosha I would give the job to Pete Matera or David Wirrapunda! They can both kick the ball along way and I just feel safer when they have the ball! I think ages ago someone mentioned Jako or Milly taking the Kick ins but I thinks thats a sheisenhausen ( sorry for copying rex) idea because both Jak and Milly are talls and we need them out on the field in kick ins for some extra targetts. At the moment everyone knows where gunna go for either Gardner or Jako but when we get Milly back we could get Milly, Jako, Gardiner and maybe Cox down there in defence then the opposition wont beable to pick who its gunna go two..that way ther'll be less chance of the player that gets the kick out having to get over two other players!

It is definetly a concern but one that i think in the past couple of weeks is being addressed.... i would like to see Matera take the kick outs but hes too important in the midfield for that

IMO, keep it with Wooden for the moment, players up the ground should look at providing a leading option for him to kick to

Hopefully when Prior gets back he can start taking over that job

Yeah, what she said. We need to have more talls on the 50m arc during kickins so that we're not too predictable.

To improve our kick-ins we need to recruit Dew from Port and he can just bomb it to the centre square everytime, none of this stuffing around.

Recognising that this isnt a viable option I know that Prior is the man for kick-ins, but there is some doubt as to whether he will crack into the sie when he is fully fit even.

Id stick with Wooden now, he's not that bad really, Wirra is ok too but I think the real problem lies in the fact that the players recieving the kick-in are just far to stagnant against the zone. I see it every time I go to Subi. Once we can get this sorted it will help our game a fair bit.

Or Fabian Francis from the other mob, who still have to try and draft him.....Fabian used to share that duty with Stewy.

They have been a big worry this year. Only McIntosh has been a good player to kick the ball out long (50-60m) and hit a target. This year we have been chipping it around, kicking to (1 on 2) contests and turning the ball over. Roo Matera should definately take over this role as often as possible.

Watching Dew on the weekend kickout after a behind on the weekend was a delight to watch.

Francis has come out and said that he wouldn't mind if WC picked him up so maybe there's a go. what do ya think ?

No thanks to Francis. We have enough midfielders, we need to look at key position players. Thats where I believe our downfall has been in the kickins, we don't have enough talls to contest the long ball, hence why we are chipping it around. If we had more talls than we could give the kickins to anyone and just ask them to bomb it long.

Just looking at Fabian Francis at the footage we see of him at training with the Dockers id say he'd have to do a LOT of fitness work before id consider him a genuine prospect, plus the contract wouldnt be long term and I doubt i'd give him anything outstanding contract wise either. Would have been different if we'd picked him up straight after he was delisted from Port, but things have changed since then obviously.

If he got into shape i would take Francis on a one year contract. He can kick the ball a long way, and loves a goal. A good midfielder who could just join the rotation of Cuz, Judd, Kerr, Braun, Fletcher etc

I think Francis is worth the punt... would come in handy with his really long kicking. We could play him either out of defence for kick in's or in the midfield with Cuz and Co.
