Last night I in particularly took notice of our kick ins in contrast to Carlton's. They looked so much more smoother and composed, finding an easy pathway out of their defence. I noticed Ben Griffiths taking a lot of our kick ins and it got me thinking, why doesn't this kid play on, run about 15m and utilise his mammoth boot by kicking it another 70m to the wing to our advantage or why doesn't he receive a pass from the kick in then roost it? He often passed short last night which bewildered me because I don't think he should be taking kick ins if he's kicking short as he clearly isn't our most accurate kick over a short distance. Surely this needs to be changed.

Cotchin should be a kick to not a kick in
Our defenders shouldn't have to rely on Trent to bring the ball out of defence. Griffiths has a massive shoe and I hope Richmond are smarter about this.

While I agree with you about the lack of variety in Griffs kick-ins I think Carlton struggled themselves for most of the night...especially in the first half.
I agree with Griff kicking long though, remember Griffs attempted short (40 metre) kick down the centre to Newy.... ended in a Judd goal/shot (can't remember which), bad option!

Griff used the big shoe on a majority of occasions last year, it will happen again I don't doubt it.

Our kick ins are a billion times better than what they used to be which is a positive at least.

Pretty much stayed in their forward half until they kicked a goal most of the time, I think we've come a loooong way in this area, always room for improvement though

Only in the last quarter. The first 3 quarters we got out from kick ins easy.

Carlton roll the dice almost every time they kick in. They take the gamble of players being free by wasting no time to kick in. We seem to wait trying to set up something which is OK, but I'd like to see some the tigers mix it up a bit.

If griffo kicked it long everytime you would assume that teams would wake up to this and just all move back. Sure this means its out of the danger zone, but then if the opposition gets it from there and kicks it in quickly it would be an open forward line which would be a terrible thing with the way our backs are set up.

Griff's kick is a weapon, even when he doesn't use it because the opposition has a larger zone to defend. I think his short kicking is as accurate as just about anyone else- decision-making may be an issue
