Established: Foley, Tuck, Deledio, Cotchin.

Wannabees: Jackson, Polo, Hislop, Thomson, Edwards, Connors, Collins.

Return from injury: Coughlan and Cousins.

Still a long way to go.

Pretty much spot on. As Mario said Cotchin was 'born established'. Foley is, but still has a way to go in terms of consistency imo, still goes missing for too long during periods of a match. Just an observation, its nothing real serious though.

I'm with nut, I wouldn't have minded a Ziebell type. But by the same token we really needed a bona fide ruckman who can pinch hit up forward, so I was very happy with Vickery. Though a draft selection like Vickery would have been handy a few years back;) He most likely won't come on as quickly as Ziebell (obviously). For that reason I would not have been unhappy had we gone the other way.

Looks promising on paper but we really need one of Thomson, Hislop or maybe Polo to come on imo, to really bolster our mid stocks. Not sure about Collins, Edwards, Collins or Jackson being an answer as fair dinkum midfielders.

He's far from having his game established though. Is 2-3 years from that

Established in the side or do you mean his game established, because his game in the next 2-3 years will be far above any midfielder that has played for our club and will be one of the best Mids to have played the game. Cotchins is seriously something special........

Weightman and Knights(pre-groin) will be hard to top

Weightman and Knights(pre-groin) will be hard to top

Weightman was one of the best midfielders the club had for a long time and probably one of the best Rovers to have played the game.
Knights was a champ, but Cotchin is quicker and has just as good if not better skills. Knights was consistently in the top 20 mids in the comp where as Cotchin will be in the top 5.

You'e kidding right? Weightman is a legend of the club, but Knights...a champ in crap sides, but inconsistent and nowhere near Richmond's greatest group of players...Cotchin on the other hand, barring injuries, could well top all those who not just wore yellow & black , but the VFL/AFL logo...still can't believe how many can't see just how good he is.....this kid will change our club , the proverbial lightning in a bottle , the smelling salts in the nostrils of the sleeping giant that will restore us to our rightful position of greatness...stop being thick as a brick and overrating the average and open your eyes for a ****ing change..

I agree, shoulda got Zeibell ...using high picks on ruckman...talls in general... is risky, more so one with dodgy knees. Only Hawthorn have ever truly hit pay dirt with it ...Carlton possibly with Kruezer, but that's about it..and even then they overlooked Cotchin to get him. I don't think our mids have the depth everyone thinks, a lot of unproven , average/merely serviceable and recycled talent there..and a dud or two *cough*Hackson*cough*. People should stop regarding Tambling as a midfielder too...occasional sojourns into the middle for him at the most from now on.

Bollocks....you seriously think, barring injuries, he'll ever play for Coburg again? Cotchin was born an established player. :thumbsu:
CRRRap Mario and you know it no doubt he will become a established player but he is not one yet.

Cotchin is as established as a 15 gamer could possibly be. Is a gun already and with Cuz as a mentor he could become anything. A sublime talent.:) Good luck to Cuz, The Greatest Eagle.

No doubt Cotchin's established in the 22 but he isn't in our best combination on ball right now.
Watson gave him a lesson in roving ruck contests last year and he will get more of that sort of learning experience this year I'm sure. Deledio, Foley, Tuck and Cousins would all be starting in the middle before him right now. Even Johnson in a tagging role as well.... for round one anyway.

Some of the best mids to ever play the game have played for Richmond.

Ian Stewart and Kevin Bartlett for example.

If he becomes one of the all time legends he still wont be far above the greats of Richmond's past.

Knighta was a freak(pre groin). I was there to see him in his first 8 years before his career was ruined when he did his groin and he's one of the best players I've seen and certainly the best Tiger player I've seen. He wasn't even half the player after he did his groin. In his first 8 years he was brilliant in traffic, very quick thinker, excellent kick, no one could tackle him, he somehow spun out of trouble, he had a very good leap and mark for his size and he was very strong at ground level. I can't even seem to remember him being tackled and caught holding the ball during his first 8 years. But after he did his groin he lost his great kick, speed, strength, leap etc. People who saw him during his last 4 years won't realise how good he was. If he didn't do his groin, I'm sure he would have been rated arguably the best player to play for the club. He would have been a much better player than what we saw in his last 4 years, but he probably would have played for longer. Go listen to your cheapo punk music Mario. You are an amatuer listener who is blind to adventure and professionalism

Man, how many people are against picking a tall with our first pick. Ludicrous. Most of the time the top talls will go very early in a draft. Ruckmen are a bit different, than other KPP's but I don't think people realise the potential of Vickery to be a KPP forward.

You don't win a GF without a midfield OR talented KPP's. We needed talented talls more than smalls. Well done recruitiers.

How many top KPP's of recent times have come from beyond the first round in the draft.

Sample of Kpp's that went early
N.Riewoldt, Lucas, Lloyd, Roughead, Franklin, Pavlich

Some Tall father Sons
Richo, Cloke, J.Brown, Hawkins, Even N.Abblett

There were of course a few flops as well. But I challenge you to name more than a few KPP's that went late.

So to get a balnanced list of KPP's you need to have a F/S a top pick or be bloody lucky.

yeah but as it is now having a good KPP fall to a 3rd round father son won't happen... and most of the big rucks taken early have gone alright but not to there potential...

take jeff white and frasier michael gardinerfor eg. kruezer is unknown as is vickery though hopefully big vick comes through.... don't forget the best ruckmen in the game came out of the rookkie draft i think... Dean CoX
