Watched a Podcast and they were discussing how our midfield gets highly rated but it is our defence which is our asset and kept us in the game last week.

They also pointed out that Moore is now an elite defender, but while as a forward his marking was his asset, he is now getting a lot more of the ball.

Our defence was amazing this year, especially the last six matches where we conceded just 324 points.

Our defence is fantastic. Its huge because all we need is things to click in the front half and we are looking good.

The half back line of Crisp, Moore & Maynard is elite and only going to get better.
Throw Howe, Roughead, Noble, Quaynor, Murphy, Kelly, Scharenberg & Langdon and we are doing fine.

What we need is a key forward.

I think we need to relax the defensive reigns in midfield and let the defence get exposed more often. They are a great group and form a fantastic foundation but we protect them. We're conservative with our ball movement and positioning, which makes us great defensively, but it makes it hard to score a winning score sometimes. We have a very talented forward group and need to give them a bit more of a chance. Our balance at the moment is close to spot on but still a bit too defensive. I think we need to tweak that next year.

That’s why I think it’s ludicrous to move Moore back to the forward line.

Howe is elite. I get the impression he has become the ‘general’ in defence. Langdon is also right up there in the ‘elite’ category.

With Roughead’s height, the backline is fairly complete.

Key fwd is definitely our biggest hole and hasn't been properly addressed for years. Mihocek is a medium third tall or at absolute best a 2nd best tall fwd but he is our best and Cox only asset is his height. Reid is cooked.

So true, but i think its more the disposal efficiency that hurts us ,bar Sidey and Pendles the rest are horrid,we need to fix this if we ever want to win a GF.
I have not looked at the prelim stats because breaks my heart to think about it,but i would guess the usual suspects (Adams ,Phillips,Treloar) were running at
50% or less.
Oh and yes the back six are awesome.

It may be the tweak ie aggressive run out of defense will come from Quaynor and Noble and they will be the ones to bring into forward 50. Moore also is not shy of long kicks out of defense.

Pies strength is the back line.

Add Langdon and its a deep and versatile line up.

Need more hard tacklers in the middle next to Adam's. Similar to Eagles strategy. Need big strong fast tacklers. The forward line can also use hard tacklers....

Can only move up IMO. Get healthy and add that big key forward... Maybe Moore play forward half the gamr

Just watching open mike and swanny said he sees a bit of dusty in degoey. If degoey could be half the player dusty is id be one happy girl. And degoey is only 23 not even in his prime yet.

Nah. I think our defense was 1 of our major strengths before Longmuir took the reins, and was building year on year.

One of the issues this year was that we pushed back so hard that when blokes were in a position to break forward they often had to hold it up becasue there was noone ahead of the ball to kick to. I reckon that was a big factor of both our miserly defence and our stagnant ball movement and forward line struggles.
