The only annoying thing about barracking for Melbourne, is that some weeks I don't go to the footy because I simply can't find someone who is willing to pay money to go. lol
Believe it or not, going on your own is very enjoyable.

(Thrashings aside...)

We've all been through that though. I was there for the merger game in 1996, there for all the shitty games of 1997, 2003 etc and copped it from all my Hawthorn and Geelong supporting mates whose clubs were generally up and about more than us. I go with a mate who was there through the very late 70s and 80s as well and, unfortunately for this club, it's nothing new. Sustained and consistent success has eluded this club since the 1960's and we aren't a fashionable club for others to support at the minute. No argument from me there.

But here we are anyway. Everyone on this board still grew up and stayed a Demon fan. There are still hundreds of thousands of us scattered across the globe and that won't change. We aren't flash right now but things can, and will, change. That may be a few years away but we will get there.

I like your sentiment CBFH but that post could easily be slipped into any thread circa 2008-9. That's what really hurts me. We were supposed to be in the good times now.

The hole is much deeper than everyone anticipated

Until we keep a core of experienced players together with the right ethic (think Grimes, Trengove, Viney, Jones etc.) then we will remain in this hole

It's going to be a 3rd quarter full of lol's whenever our teams meet. Two teams of witches hats watching a ball roll around on the ground.

Don't worry, we'll play you back into form - we've been playing players and teams back into form for decades

I remember '97 when St Kilda had a slow start to the season. Flogged us in Round 6 and went on to make the GF

Could be slipped in to any thread circa 1970 if BigFooty was around back then. ;)

I agree though and I recall many threads where it was discussed that 2012-14 was going to be the time when we hit Top 4 and started to become a powerhouse of the competition. We couldn't have been more wrong if we tried!

I experienced the seventies and early eighties, and to be honest there is a hell of a lot more hope around now than there ever was then. No draft or salary cap saw the financially stronger clubs dominate and the rest made up the numbers, with no chance of ever challenging. At least now if the club can get it's shit together, draft wisely and build on the good kids we have now things can turn around, back then the season held no hope of success. I personally endured almost 23 years of seeing no success before being able to see my club in finals, as I was born 9 days after our last flag in 64. It will not take that long again.
