i havent seen much at all about our vfl side this season, but with the results we have been getting has going away from williamstown been a great move? we seem to be getting flogged weekly and im not sure how the development of our guys is going?

last year we had the likes of clarke and goldsack playing in a quality seconds side and learning a lot quicker it seems. this season ive heard bugger all about how dyas is going for example. and it cant be good for the likes of reid and dawes.

i think having a reserves is a brilliant idea and is fantastic for the club long term, but should of we continued with williamstown this season, while setting up the reserves side for next season, with the right people to run it etc?

Why not find out;
* Why we started a VFL side
* What is its purpose
* Is winning a major driver

Once you've done that, you'll find there isn't really a need to start a thread like this

* Why we started a VFL side
To develop players in MM's style of play.

We use East Burwood FC (efl) as our top up Club for the VFL team so are we just seeing the gap between a Powerful Club playing in what the EFL claim to be the best Subruban comp in Melbourne if not the country and the VFL?
I'd suggest our results say yes.

It would be nice to think our VFL team could be like Geelongs VFL team, but it is our first year. I would have liked us to use the Northern Football League(dvfl) as our feeder, but the link with East Burwood is in the boardroom and we know thats what counts at Collingwood FC .... not what ya know but who.

mate..u have no idea

there is a VFL squad.....and only a handful (4-5) get chosen to play in the side...the rest go and play with there original suburban club...and if they play good there...and injurys or ommitions take place..they then may get a call up..

prob the best thing to happen is next year for there to be a VFL reserves side as well..

One of the major reasons we went to a VFL side of our own, was that players like Ben Reid and Nathan Brown were playing Williamstown reserves last year.

As soon as Nathan Brown has been given the chance to play against senior players, he has flourished.

It is Collingwood VFL after all, and we have seen with the success of the Geelong model that given time and development, our VFL side will not only be successful in developing our players, but will also be a force in the VFL.

Collingwood recently dont fail at much, and MM and Eddie and the coaching staff at VFL level will ensure we continue the development of our players and the VFL team.

I go back to Tyson Goldsack's comments, saying that even his own parents were surprised at his development at Collingwood, so we must be doing something right, trust the club.

Not sure about the East Burwood link, given that Walsh and Yaman to name two, both play for Balwyn when not required for the Pies.

Alan Richardson used to coach East Burwood, so that is probably why the link comes up.
