good afternoon all and sundry...

i am an extremely proud tigers supporter, and have been for over 6 years, and this year i decided to move overseas to japan for a bit of an experience and some fun. so, as i left, i kinda made the decision to give footy the 'cold turkey' treatment, as it's caused me a few grey hairs and probably reduced my life expectancy a few years, as i'm sure you fellow rfc supporters can sympathise.

...but cold turkey ain't working! i've bitten the bullet and decided that i may need to get an afl.com.au overseas subscription, but upon reading a few of the threads open (thank you search function), i was a bit disappointed to see that it is far from recommended. does anyone have any suggestions? i mean, for me to pay $60 AU (which i'm glad to do...) i demand quality. i mean, i watch online streaming tv of shows such as lost, prison break, etc, and they are for FREE, and of supposed better quality.

money is not the issue. i want to be able to watch reasonable quality, as that is paramount for me. i am aware that there are a few 'underground' sites and whatnot, so if anyone could help me out, that would be MOST awesome. seriously. i am gagging for afl, even two interstate sides would be awesome! but most importantly, i would love to be able to get some richmond games, if not all. if there are less-than-legal sites around that provide this service, and have a subscription fee, that would not be a problem.

i have a pretty up-to-date laptop (about a year or so old) and have ADSL2 connection (8000+ mb/sec connection) and no bandwidth limits. man, when i return to australia i'm gonna miss that. i have no problems with any other streaming tv on the net, so i dare say it should be okay.

if some of this stuff is 'banable' or red-card material, a PM would be just as awesome...

i know it sounds like i'm making demands and all of that, so i apologise for my pushy requests. i would be so eternally grateful if any fellow tigers (or other team supporters) would help a jonesin' afl addict out...

thank you so much in advance. you guys may be my lifeline this year!!!

cheers...

Plenty of footy in UK. Sentanta is showing 100 games on tv this year

Most of that is on Setanta Sport 2. A lot of packages only offer Setanta Sport 1, but it does not mention that in the small print and they all cost the same. Just be careful. I am trying to work out how to get it without a sky subscription at present.

Does anybody know what the quality is like through broadband (i.e. does it cut out, is it HD etc and can you record it on set top boxes etc)? May get it through Tiscali.

See if you can get the 'Australia' Channel on cable tv. They have it in HK and it plays 5 afl games a week. They're not live (about an hour or two delay) but it definately helps!

u need to relax.

If ur reliant on the net for your football coverage
then you are at the mercy of the AFL/TELSTRA website.

You'll wait a minimum of 24 hrs to see a replay of a game u already listened to on the net-radio,with a 30 second delay and sometimes that doesn't work either.

Its the best Setanta... I have Sky (Virgin media) and for any extra £5 per month, get Setanta as well. Dont leave the ****ing couch now. Although l do get tired of watching the Scottish/Dutch football league... thats all they seem to have.

Bring it on this year... word is they're going to be showing every game this year - albeit somewhat delayed. ;)

I'm in the process of getting a slingbox. Allows to you to watch Australian Pay TV.. if you can get a subsriber in Aus to hook it up for you.... if money is not an issue than pay someone to do it for you. http://www.slingmedia.com/

Dude you can get the Australia Network in Japan.

5 games of AFL every week.

All you need is a satellite dish & a set top box.
Here's how you go about it for Japan specifically.

http://www.autv.org/abc_asia-pacific.html

thanks so much for that...

thanks for all the help guys. this 'setanta' network is for the british isles, right? i'm in japan. but the australia network for asia sounds okay. i'm not quite sure if i can get a satelite installed; something in my rental agreement which states i can't alter the state of anything; even if i want to install a NEW airconditioning unit, and leave it in when i vacate the premises, all from my own money. renting in japan is something that needs to be experienced to be believed. you can't do most things you can in australia (imagine being a landlord and your tenant tells you that they are gonna install an aircon unit and leave it in for you; you'd welcome that! not here...), so i don't like the chances of being allowed to install a satelite here. even getting ADSL/a phoneline installed had the landlord ummming and errring. i don't understand the logic, but there you go...

has anyone got an afl.com.au subscription this year? i remember some geezer on the main board, who claimed to be an employee of afl.com.au, said that it would be drastically improved this year? does anyone know if it's better this time around?

the slingbox idea looks like it could work fine, no one who has fox footy has broadband internet, so i dunno if that'd work well...

does EVERY game get copied and put onto aussietorrents.com?

ox in ald is right do not rely on the net. it is a disgrace and if you have a mac you can forget it. do not get me started.

if you are in asia get asia tv as mentioned before. it is great. I am in beijing now and soon to go to Abu Dhabi in August. I will get some games on showtime apparently there but that will not help you.

you can play footy there in jap as well go to worldfooty.com there are good supporter bases etc and functions.

I am looking into slingshot as well.

go you tiger boys.
