Didnt have big numbers today but i thought he was very very good once again. Suprised me a bit in the 3rd, didnt realise he was that quick until he ran down Waite twicce which should of resulted in frees. Probably other than Fletch and Hirdy) the person i'd want with the ball most, makes very good decisions and certainly has improved out of sight since last year.

What is his future position do you guys think. Dont think he is tall enough for the ruck and he is to tall for a key position, so being 197 he is inbetween but he is very fast.

While i agree with most of the above there is also something that i have not seen him given credit for before in any of the other threads on him.

His Kicking is impeccable, hopefully Ant can elaborate further from what he has seen from training?

He's been great and really backs himself in when the ball is to be contested. Have to admire that.

So you are saying that Jeff White isnt a ruckman either as he is only 195cm?
How many ruckman are over 195cm? Yes Cox,Everitt and Sandilands are but then Simmonds and White are not.
Ryder has a magic leap for the ball if you can leap you make up the 5 or 6 cm.
As for being too tall for a KP why is there a height restriction. If you are tall, agile and mobile it doesnt matter.

Yes his disposal is as good as anyones at the club. Seems to be pretty composed under pressure this year. Just needs a little more bulk ,not too much to make him too heavy but enough to enable him to absorb the knocks from the bigger blokes. Looks like he is getting confidence in his game and what he can do.

The game has changed from short ruckmen. Jeff White was playing with ruckmen that were 199cm now we have the animal sandilands and cox. Ryder is a very good player but i dont think rucking against sandilands and cox is easy with a 10 cm advantage. And to be honest jeff white isnt a ruckman but his leap makes up for any height defecency, but we must keep in my mind jeff white also used to play when there wasnt that little circle so he could have a huge run up.

I can see Paddy playing more in the ruck than Laycock will eventually. Just needs to bulk up a bit so he isn't dominated in boundary throw ins. And just on him rucking against Cox or Sandilands, yes it would be hard rucking against them, but those 2 and Lade are the three best in the comp. I wouldn't expect Hille to beat them either. Ryder seems to have a really good ruckmans brain. he knows where to palm it and he knows how to get it there. he just needs to bulk up a bit to become a genuine ruckman IMO.

Yeh was the best ruck prospect in his draft so judging by that he may well be a good ruckman and he is still young so he might grow taller.

was pretty good today... i think sheedy should have put in the ruck as soon as whitnall was put there... he is better then hille and laycock when it comes to his tap work.

I'm a huge wrap for Paddy. Getting besides his pysical freakishness, where he can play ruck but moves as well as anyone he just seems so calm with the ball in his hands. If there was to be a bomber under pressure he would be my 2nd choice to have the ball after the great James Hird, he seems to know what to do and can do it properly, the anti-KepBradley if you want.

He did look good when moved into the ruck on Saturday, in hindsight perhaps he should have be tried there earlier? We really did struggle in the centre, so we couldnt have gone any worse.

But, I am happy for him to be kept in some sort of cotton wool, no need to throw him to the wolves and playing as the 3rd tall in defense is a great development position for him.

He was a freak u18 ruckman, and all australian u18 Ruckman. There will be no suprise if he does indeed turn into a top level AFL ruckman, but flexibility is going to be the beauty of this gem.

He seems to have the total package, just needs to put on weight and the sky is the limit for this kid.

2 more preseasons I reckon.

the kid is still very young, 18 when he was drafted so hed be 19 atm. people are still growing at that age, he could still grow up to the average sized ruckman or taller..
only time will tell

with his leap it doesn't matter that he is a bit shorter than most other ruckman. he was jumping all over ackland

within 2 years he will probably be our number one ruckman and hopefully andy lee can step up be the third tall defender

yer he has surprised me with his skills. he is always composed and he usually chooses thebest option

John Barnes was barely a touch over 6'4'' and was one of the better ruckman in the league in his prime
