I know it's only VFL, and it was against very poor opposition, but I just wanted to post these highlights for any Saints fan that hasn't seen them yet. It's something to get excited about.

We all knew we would get a contested mark beast with a reasonable enough set shot to play as a classic KPF, but what this footage shows is so far beyond that. The amount of pin point field kicks from Paddy, marking on half back to play link up, mark & bring opponent to ground to whip around for fast i50, quick handball to running player, as well as all the great marks, plus his two goals which were both snaps around the body like a player much more agile than some thought we had.

I've always rated him, but all this plus the article with Josh Bruce saying he's dedicated to his fitness and is keeping up with Bruce a lot more often than he used to says we have a seriously dynamic player on our hands and I'm not sure the football world at large really recognizes it yet.

Richo was right to say Paddy's name first when asked Stringer or Hogan.

Huge improvement this year from Paddy.

Very exciting times to have Bruce, McCartin, Membrey, Lonie etc inside forward 50 for years to come.

That is so damn exciting.
And I did enjoy Richo talking Paddy up.....like Hogan and Stringer who?

Love watching the big man throw his body into contests. Imagine how good a contested mark he will be when he is fully developed.

With Bruce's lead and run and Paddy crashing into packs our small forwards will have a field day on the crumbs.

He's a ripper.

Thank god we picked a forward at the draft made him pay his dues and learn from a champion of the game instead of throw money at a spud that doesn't deserve it ;)

Now to fit him in the team with Membrey slamming goals each week, Roo in inspired form and Brucey doing his thing

looking at those highlights there, and, yes i know it is vfl, but i think he looks better higher up the ground than deep in the forward line. which i think suits us better because i think bruce is more a full forward type, and if paddy turns out to be a gun chf that suits us perfectly, especially with membry in the side. the hard part is that with roo still playing, how to fit them all in, i know hes been playing a lot higher up the ground this year, but he does tend to spend a quarter or two a game in the forward line, and it also makes us a bit top heavy with all 4 down there

Can't wait to watch this (my phone screen looks like a stepped on Twistie)

I know it's only his second season, but I can't say my hopes for Paddy are as high as they once were, I'm sure he will be at least a serviceable forward for us for a decade or longer, but I'm not as certain he will be that go-to marquee player that we drafted him for. He's a little sluggish and fumbly for mine, of course he is adapting to his body (still with a bit of puppy fat) and the speed of the AFL, so time will tell. I really hope he does prove me wrong, he's such a likable guy.

I would like him to get a bit of a mean streak in him, Jonathon Brown mid noughties style. Be that big, intimidating, pack splitting forward who doesn't take shit from anybody.

I think you've got Paddy and Bruce back to front.
Bruce's athleticism and ability to work up the ground and get back suits the CHF's role to a tee. Paddy looks to be a sharp and direct lead up forward who will hopefully be able to out muscle opponents closer to goal with ease as his career progresses.

Watching that game was like watching young Jason Dunstal, he was fantastic, split packs, worked hard got to dangerous spots. I've been a bit neither here or there thinking he'd be at least a good player but the more I see of him the higher I set his ceiling. Needs to work on his set shot kicking but he's so close to just ripping off the chain and tearing the comp apart.

That is the only qualm I have of his this season and incidentally was the only thing missing from the highlights package.
His ability to shoot for goal and take one grab marks were the things I was keen to see him work on once the footy started this year after it had been reported widely that his aerobic capacity and fitness were coming along strongly during the pre season. He has already proven he can pluck them, now he just needs to kick them.

His goals he did kick were wheeling around, he seems to freeze up with the set shot ATM. I hope they are getting who ever worked on Bruce on to him.

Not sure if I was just watching Jarryd Roughead or Paddy McCartin. I never realised Paddy was that agile and that good of a field kick. I'm very excited!!

Good call, have had a gut feeling for a while that if he develops as we all hope a Roughy clone is the sort of player we'll end up with. Certainly wouldn't be complaining about that.

Imagine how dangerous our forward line will be in the future if both Paddy and Membrey keep developing like they are.

Billings - Bruce - Sinclair
Membrey - McCartin - Lonie

Brucey playing a similar role to Riewoldt's pushing up the ground and pushing back hard

McCartin just a contested beast in the Forward line ala Tom Hawkins

Membrey the agile running medium tall.

Billings both good at ground level and in the air for his size

And Lonie and Sinclair crumbing everything and applying extreme defensive pressure.
