Amidst the gloom and doom I though he shone today. Went in wondering who would stop Cloke from monstering us, and for most of the day Paddy did an outstanding job.

In a year where his intensity and desire has been questioned I thought today he provided some answers.

Go Bombers!!

Not buying it, 1 week good 4 weeks average.

He was a monster today but its the truth.

Needs to show some consistency.

Bloody Cloke kicks 3 junk time goals on him. Ryder was easily our best player unfortunately it probably means he is worst on ground for the next 3.

Agree Paddy played well today, but he does need to find consistency.
Re: 'providing answers', he demonstrated his ability as a backman a couple of years ago IMO. I remember him leading Johnathon Brown to the ball in the same way as he did Cloke for much of today.

Wouldn't be opposed to Paddy playing off halfback when not on-ball, with Hurley forward.

Superb work, and I think he'll be staying in the backline for the rest of the year. Kept waiting for Cloke to take a contested mark, and didn't happen until the game was over, essentially.

And he hasn't been crap for a month. He was great against Geelong and Richmond, and good against Adelaide.

Perhaps a consistent position may help with that....

He was great today and he's been more than solid since the 3 rucks thing ended...

He seems to play well when given a job. Hille lifted today as i think he realised he may get dropped for bellchambers if he doesn't show some prick.

Yeah! I just have to add my toast to Paddy - he was great. He seems to excel when he is given an almost impossible task. Funny guy, that Paddy. He plays his best when he is told the entire team depends on him. :thumbsu:
Must be some Irish blood in there somewhere. :p

One thing I notice about Paddy is that whilst he 'never' takes a contested mark he rarely allows his opponent to take one against him - would lead him to being more of a defender than a forward. Hirdy should tell him "until you show that you can regularly take a contested mark you are going to play defense". Not a good thing when players say, as it is reported Paddy did, that they don't like defense. (Especially when they don't have all the required attributes for other positions).

Not till next year. And I doubt we'll be getting rid of him anytime soon.

The surplus of ruckmen at Essendon is grossly exaggerated: Hille will be finished sooner rather than later.
