Our CEO wrote: ‘The clubs who will feel this most acutely are those finishing in the lower half of the ladder — the very clubs the draft is supposed to help most.’

Thus the solution is straightforward. DON’T finish in the lower half of the ladder.

The DVI for next year is a huge issue really.

Theyre right, change the index for next year and the impact is far more reasonable.

Going to be near impossible with watered down picks to match for Salopek, Pilot and Rodan. We just flat out wont have enough picks to do it. We will need to max out on deficit.

They'll have to trade 1st round picks from 2028 and 2029. Potentially to Tasmania. I'd say their picks 9 and 11 would be most accurate to look at. Then it's those 2 picks plus Ports 1st round and 2nd round pick(s) to figure it all out.

The Pilot family should investigate any potential legal action against the AFL after switching from a promising basketball career to an AFL pathway.

No chance. His pathway still exists, just not to his club of choice.

Why?

The new draft rules don't preclude him from an AFL career.

Well if you can only use 2 picks per player, and we can only have as many picks as list vacancies, we would need to create extra vacancies, maybe via delisting and relisting, to have enough picks, to get enough points to do all the matching.

Getting all 3, especially at inflated values is going to be bloody hard to do.

Was part of the AFL/NGA "sell" the narrative that he wouldn't have to leave his family under the AFL rules at the time. If he did have to leave his family, would he have chosen the FIBA pathway instead of AFL? IDK, I'm stretching I know, hence "investigate".

AFL only respond to 3 levels of "threat": legal, sponsors, and PC public perception. They're our only angles if we want to do something about it.
