We probably would've been better off keeping Brittain. When we won the spoon with him, we had a lot of injuries, and we lost plenty of close ones. Unfortunately though, Brittain would've traded Fev to the Bombers. Even still, he proved in 2001 that he could coach to the modern game.

There's nothing worse than hearing "No one could have done a better job than Pagan". I'm sorry, but that's a cop-out! I would only say that if I knew that all the players were being coached to the maximum of their potential. - They clearly have not been. Every year we have a stack of players playing well below their potential. And collectively, we are the worst kicking team in the league. Why is that? I see Paul Roos take a bunch of Rubgy players and turn them into dead-eye-dicks. And yet classy players like Nick Stevens have gotten steadily worse with their disposal. Our only accurate kick at goal is so because he spends an extra half hour of goal kicking practice a session. Could you imagine our scorelines if he stuck solely to the training regime? :o

If we're gonna keep Pagan on next year, then we have to find replacements for Libba and Elshaugh. This illusion of having untalented players has gone on long enough.

While not excusing the lack of skills, which was undeniable, the lack of talent is not an illusion.
The comparison with Sydnet is far too simplistic. Sydney have been a good side for a while and has seasoned hard bodies in the midfield, along with a top forward line. I don't think Roos could do much better with us if he had come in at the same time as DP.

Saying that, Carlton do need to play to their potential, it is better than what we are seeing on the field. There have been signs for me, and I would like to think we will see improvement throughout the season.

Well said Funky. I'd also like to add the setanta experiment to demonstrate how bad our skills coaches are. They haven't been able to teach him to kick either. Skills can be taught, especially when you have 'leite' athletes with 'talent'. :D:D:D:D there's a MASSIVE skills/training industry in the workplace, you'd think elite sports would match that as well? Maybe they need the equivalent of Computer Power in the footy, where a bum can be unemployed in one year, and become an IT analyst support dude and drive a Porsche in one year. Imagine getting that result with our team!

The strange this I think you actually believe the drivel you write. I could just see you being taken for a ride on one of those get rich quick schemes, or lose 40k's without exercise!

Is part of a coach's role teaching the players he has. Would a teacher stop teaching if his students were not agrade? Wouldn't a good teacher at least improve the standards of the students he has?

I believe Pagan is a very gifted teacher but has lost his faith in the students and for the time being himself. I don't believe Denis or the supporters should wait for the talent to enter the club before we regain passion to perform.

If we do just wait for future stars to save the club then we are missing the lesson and the real problems that are there at Carlton. If these players come in they will be like an anti depressant. ie; They will treat the current problem but not fix the cause.

Pagan is finished

The game on the weekend was yet again another example of Pagan's inability to recognise swings in momentum and play to your strengths

I wasn't expecting a win

I expected us to TRY and win the game

Not come out after half time and YET AGAIN put Lance BEHIND THE BALL even when we had done well late in the 2nd with Lance up forward

How stupid of me to expect Lance to stay up forward given we were doing well:rolleyes:

What an amazingly stupid coaching move. You can't get much worse than changing a combination which WORKED

ohhh hang on...............where else did this happen. The richmond game

A combination that was working (Fev, Lance, etc) and what does Pagan do? Put Lance down back:D

I can't understand why you would change a combination that was WORKING.

Not to mention the kickout strategy! What kickout strategy. Denis' comments after the richmond game were amazing; "we couldn't stop their kickouts" WELL WHY DIDN'T you have a strategy in place BEFORE the game?

Training watchers who go to training frequently comment that there is rarely any effort put into kickouts

How, in this day and age, could you neglect to focus on one of the most vital parts of today's game? Teams CONSTANTLY smash us from the kickouts

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE TALENTED TO PROTECT THE KICKOUT

It's amazing seeing the oposition kick a point, and then seeing us take forever to go and pick up the ball.

Maybe if we continue to get belted things will change;)
