Seems Pahoff isnt backing down just yet.

This is perhaps one of our most critical times at the club ever. It is important we get the right coach this time around.

Tiger rebels reject Casey peace bid
24 July 2004 Herald Sun
Jon Pierik

REBEL Richmond member Michael Pahoff says president Clinton Casey's offer to put himself up for re-election 12 months early in a bid to bring peace to Punt Rd isn't good enough.

No go, Casey: Rebel Tiger Michael Pahoff says January is too late for Clinton Casey's poll. Pahoff wants a board spill in late September.

Casey said on Thursday he was prepared to put his fate in the hands of the members at the club's annual general meeting in January, 12 months before he is due to seek re-election.

But Pahoff said last night January was too late and he wanted a board spill in late September.

It also emerged last night that John Ilhan, the owner of the Crazy John's mobile phone empire, is keen to join the Tigers board, as long as Casey isn't in charge.

Pahoff maintained he would hand in his petition of more than 100 signatures and force an emergency general meeting unless the Tigers president agreed to his call by Tuesday.

"If Clinton Casey is prepared to announce a full board election to be held before the end of September, I will withdraw the petition," Pahoff said.

"That will give Greg Miller two months of quiet. He'll have the remainder of July, all of August and he'll have all of September . . . to make the decision he needs to make."

Miller is leading Richmond's search for a coach to replace Danny Frawley and is worried the off-field instability may hurt the club's chances of securing its No. 1 target.

Pahoff did say he was pleased to see Casey "starting to move" after giving him a seven-day deadline early last week to plan for change.

Casey said on Thursday the two people known to be calling for a spill – former board member Brendan Schwab and Pahoff – were driven by personal issues.

Pahoff said this was nonsense.

"I don't know Clinton Casey personally to be able to make a personal opinion of him," he said. "The only personal issue I have with him is he destroyed my football club."

Ilhan said last night he had the time to join the board of his beloved Tigers but was not interested in being president.

But bad business dealings with Casey in the past had soiled his relationship with the embattled leader.

"No one has actually asked me (to join). If they did it wouldn't be with the current board," Ilhan said.

"I have had a few bad business dealings with them.

"We tried a couple of sponsorship deals in the past, but they (the Tigers) weren't professional."

The Tigers this week met prospective coaches Terry Wallace and Rodney Eade.

Both are likely to be interviewed again by Miller next week.

I really feel for Greg Miller.

Everyone is expecting him to turn the club around and yet the most critical thing that he needs to do - Get the right Coach before September - is being complete thwarted by this ********.

If we end up with Britain or someone out of desperation again then this guy could be held responsible.

No one is impressed with the Casey regime but the biggest fear for Richmond supporters is being stuck with another - 'I was a good leader as a player therefore i should make a good coach' - type of bloke.

Go Don Scott!!!!!!. Give us a level playing field with the Hawks.

No one can agitate like the Big number 23 of Hawthorn.

Im expecting Mal Brown to walk in any moment.

At least with his son at Hawthorn maybe he can cause some problems for the Administration there.

This is the danger of someone able to weild power and not actually being smart enough to know what to do with it.

I have a philosophy of minimum impact. That is to say, what is the minimum effort - and therefore the most economical - to achieve a stated objectives.

Pahoff's objective was to oust the Casey board.

If he back's off at this moment, he will have effectively reached his objective and with relatively little collateral damage.

Casey will remain as caretaker president and would most certainly be gone by January.

Mission accomplished.

In the meantime, we would get a good look at the potential new ticket and especially if Ilhan was part of it, we would be Crazy not to accept it.

By backing off now, Pahoff will give the club the space to perform an orderly change over of the board which will in turn create the perception of a more stable environment which will be a crucial element in attracting the best possible coaching candidate.

This appointment is critical to our future and it is currently being compromised by Pahoff's action, especially since Casey's offer to fall on his sword.

On the other hand, if a potential coach sees an alternative ticket being formed with the footballing likes of Welsh and Wood and the business clout of Ilhan, then his perception of the financial viability of the club would strengthen.

I'm struggling to comprehend why Michael Pahoff still wants to present his petition. It was reported the alleged alternative would present their own when ready which surely makes Pahoff's redundant.
I agree with CJH. He has done all he needs to and should drift back into anonymity.
Let the people who are prepared to work through correcting the plight of the club in an official capacity be the ones to decide what happens now. Michael Pahoff has stated from the outset that he is not one of them.

A slip of the tongue and his real agenda comes out - nothing but an ego trip. It's not your club buddy, it belongs to a whole lot of people. You've had your 15 minutes of fame, now take a bow and exit stage left.

This guy hasn't once provided a viable alternative. If he is a puppet, then its time to come out and say who the puppet-masters are.

I'll smash the carnt if i see him.

Looks like he type of geek that had no mates at school and is
hell bent on proving himself as a worthy waste of space by gaining any reputation he can.

The way he's pushing and carrying on now leaves no question that the whole situation has gone to his yamuka.

Beware of tools bearing gifts and news.
