just wondering if anyone would know roughly what painters may quote to paint the interior of a 4 bed 2 bathroom 2 living areas. I understand quotes would differ and i will get some soon but just wondering what the thoughts are.

i could do it myself but i would prefer a proffessional finish

Mate of mine recently got his 4 x2 home painted. $4000

:) thanks that was all inclusive yeah?

Yeah.. Everything.

But I still can't work out why people pay a small fortune to get painting done. It's not that much hard work really. It's just a pain in arse time consuming chore.

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
Van Gogh
Beat me to it. :(

I like to call in sick to work at places where I’ve never held a job. Then when the manager tells me I don’t work there, I tell them I’d like to. But not today, as I’m sick.”
Jarod kintz.

Mine was around 5k with three different colours. Will try to find the actual hard copy when I get home.

Unless your looking for a special finish, DIY. I cant get over the fact that you have to do an apprenticeship to be a qualified painter, I did a 3 bedroom house in a week, 2 coats ceilings and walls, after 1 room you will have the hang of it, just buy decent quality paint and brushes/rollers.

Missed my chance at being the first to make the joke but I like this quote so here it is anyway:

"When I go to farms or little towns, I am always surprised at the discontent I find. And New York, too often, has looked across the sea toward Europe. And all of us who turn our eyes away from what we have are missing life." ~ Norman Rockwell

4 grand sounds a bit cheap for a re paint of a house that size. Was it ceilings, walls, doors archs and skirts ? If so, that's very cheap

Pretty small 4 x 2.. I'm pretty sure they didn't paint roof. Everything else you mentioned was done

Depending on exactly what you want painted and style of house, condition of painted surfaces etc then you could expect to pay anywhere from 4 to $10,000.

Fair enough, obviously without seeing the house or the condition it was in its hard to know exactly if 4 grand is too cheap or not. To me it's cheap but your mate may have got a young bloke just starting out who's not had much experience quoting work or maybe someone who done it as a cashie. As long as he got a decent job then it's 4 grand well spent

No idea. I suppose you can't believe tilers, brickies etc have to do apprenticeships either ? There's a lot more to painting than just slapping it on the walls. While I agree with you that using quality paint and materials helps, there's still a lot of other stuff that needs to be done to get a decent finish even for a DIY. Painting is 90% preparation 10% applying the paint. So yeah while painting is the one thing that a lot of people think they can do, if you don't do any preparation you'll end up with a very poor paint job which will end up costing you a lot more money later on if you decide that you made a mistake doing it yourself and end up calling a professional

Just painted our large hallway with my dad-in-law, I know little about painting but we did a classy job. Walls and ceiling. Taped up all the sockets and fittings, plenty of dropsheets, good quality paint. Piece of piss.

Am tempted to become a professional looking at the prices in this thread:eek:

4 years to learn how a sand a wall properly? okay mete.

Oh, and I tiled a laundry, bathroom and a kitchen, was a piece of piss as well with a quality tile cutter. I guess I must just be smart.

Had my house painted in 2013 and it cost me $8k

That included 4 bedrooms, study, 2 x bathrooms, laundry, kitchen and 2 x living area.

One of our main issues was that the previous owner of the house had used cheap paint and it was peeling in a number of areas and had stuck stuff on the ceilings so there was a lot of prep work plus we had 3 walls rendered that were previously exposed brick.

I could have done it all myself but don't think I would have got the same result and its very time consuming. Plus its a campaigner of a job.

Just moved into a new house a few months ago about the same size as yours got three quotes ranging between $5500 and $8000. We were always going to DIY and ended up costing less than a grand the end.

Jesus. $8k to paint a house. I'd be going the DIY route as well.

With a new house you can paint it while it's completely empty and you can paint it a bit at a time.

If it was me I'd paint my bedroom and the spare room first, then start loading everything into the spare room. Then I'd go through the rest of the rooms one by one and unpack what goes into them after I've painted them.

Yeah crazy prices but a lot of people really don't want to do so I guess they can charge that. We were always going to do it ourselves but we're curious how much we'd be saving if we did it ourselves.
Did pretty much all of it before we moved in apart from one of the spare rooms which was fine because there was no rush to unpack anything into that room.

Or you don't have high standards.
