Heard alot about how we needed another ball magnet.

Do people now see that you cant carry players who cough it up and cant kick a drop punt?

I want him to get better, I really do, but he needs to refine his kicking and put together some decent footy for the Sharks.

I thought he played fairly well today, took him a little while to get back into it prior to getting subbed he was finding the ball well and was very effective by hand. Kicking is still a bit suss though as you mentioned but definitely deserves his spot next week IMO

I must have been watching a different game.

He handalled to flat footed teammates so often, missed targets by hand and foot.

Loved the floater in the last or was it the second.

He's just not up to it, wasnt last year and will be moved aside again unless he improves his decison making and disposal.

I think some of you are being a bit harsh. 18 posessions at 83% in 2 and a half quarters is a fair effort in anyones language. Only 1 clanger according to the stats. He has had better games but there were a lot worse for us out there tonight.

Didn't really notice him except for that shocking lack of awareness in the defensive 50 where he got caught with his pecker in his hand.

You mean where he was caught napping, not once, but twice.

Firstly run down, then tackled again on the deck as he forgot how to handball?

I thought he was ok. A couple of mongrel punts (he wasnt on his Pat Malone there). So to answer the Op his skills werent overly effective but other parts of his game were effective. I thought his tackling and hardness around the packs were very, very good. He certainly wasnt our worst by any stretch. Could rattle off 6 or 7 who played worse than him easily. I would say give him a bit of time to build his confidence and settle into his role this season

I may be jumping the gun here, but Im really starting to think he's going to ushered aside for the likes of Pitt, Mellington and Michie.

Maybe we look to the trade, he wasnt injured was he?

Interesting that Harvey would sub of a midfielder who wasnt injured, considering the injury situation.

You would want all the running power you can get, maybe he didnt rate what Palmers game?

I'm not the biggest fan of Palmer, but he was OK tonight and I'd keep him in the side at the moment.

He did have an injury before being subbed off, copped a knock to the head.

And his DT/SC ratio was 55/75, so in terms of pure stats and the title of this thread ... he was reasonably effective with what he did.

Mate we looked winners when he was off the field.

All this talk of him going to GWS let him go we should show him the the door
He is shit.
He is the ultimate show pony.
He is so shit its unbeleievable.
The ultimate ******* cost us the game V the WCE is preseason by missing a 9 pt goal (via a 50) and then giving away a freee kick goal 30 seconds later.Scratch match fair enough but when your a cantox signing contracts with other teams he can **** off.

Again, like McPhee, who gets singled out for the mistakes he might make. Small bikkies in the context of the game. Support the blokes who do their best & make the contest. Under pressure there is always a greater chance of mucking up.
Lets get behind the blokes who put their life on the line.
Freo as one we support.

Fock uff Reece

As a team we are one.
People need to remember the sacrificial efforts players make.
Barrack for someone else if one is to judge on making scape goats of players who make up part of the team that is Freo.
Shites me that people focus on some players for their minor infractions.
Pav makes mistakes but bloody hell we love the guy.
Everyone who starts the game deserves our support.
All others can bugger off.
Its been a long time for us to get where we are.
Makes a big difference when we stand united .

Seriously, shut the **** up. You sound like a preacher, if a bloke has issues why not talk about them.

Harves has driven this club forward by demanding the ability to hit targets.

Palmer struggles to do so.

lol at least wait till after round 1 to crucify palmer, especially when he wasn't nearly as bad as you try to make him out to be. he was hard around the contest, and although he had some shoddy passes, he tackled well and saved a goal.

Why dont you just hand your purple gear in. That is a disgraceful rant against one of our players. There were lots of Freo fans calling for McPhee's head early last year. Now they admit that he is a vital part of the team structure.

It is the first game, we won, there were no major injuries. Shut up, be grateful that we got out of jail against a determined side and support your team.

Palmer will come good, we need him as part of our squad for 2011 especially with all of our injuries. Be grateful that he is available for us and he will keep on trying to do his best. That is all you can ask of a player.

The problem is that if you handball 3 metres to a team mate under pressure it's considered a good disposal in terms of efficiency so players can make the wrong decision which Palmer did several times last night and the stats say that he played well.

After the first quarter i thought he looked slow and leg weary.
From then until he was replaced I saw him as a good performer particually his chasing and tackling. He just doesnt seem to have that break away speed and gut running ability that used to have.

Still early days and he may just need a little more confidence

For a guy who won the Rising Star he's well short of that quality. Just looks to not be taking the game on as if he's got little voices in his head.

Either the game style has changed that dramatically in the last 2 years that he's been found wanting or he's just unable to pick up any new skills.

I was not impressed by him in the middle last night, thought he should have done a lot more to win that ball.

I agree with other sentiments around here that he'll be out of our best 22 when we've got 2-3 come back from injury.

I think you are jumping the gun, he was average to good last night, his kicking was ordinary, but other parts of his game were good. did enough to play next week

Maybe we look to the trade, he wasnt injured was he?

if his whole year is like last night, then yes i would say he will be looked at to trade, and he would probably even walk as he is not reaching the potential he could be at

he came off with concussion. harves didnt have a choice in the matter

harves didnt have a choice, and plus, roberton is an athlete, he does have running power, especially from defence.
