not sure if this has already been mentioned, but good news

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/afl/6925809/freo-will-see-geelong-mean-business/

Palmer, who damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in round five against Sydney last season and has not played since, could play half a game for East Fremantle's WAFL reserves as early as next week provided he gets through training next week without soreness and swelling.

The Dockers considered giving him his first run in a WAFL match this week before deciding on an extra week's preparation.

Its a bit of a hard decision. He will probably be played at 50% intensity and if he gets through that unscathed and through training unscathed would you play him full bore AFl in round 1 or try him full bore in the WAFL again.....or even 50 % WAFl again.

It must be frustrating for Harvs.

He'll play 50% next week in Wafl then East Fremantle reserves again Round 1 Afl I'd suggest - then at least 2 more Wafl games IMO...can't see him returning to Afl until Round 3-4 at earliest

I have heard alot of questions marks over Palmer's "dedication" to his rehab program.

I think he has been enjoying the high life abit to much. I dont expect too much from him next season. It will take him a full year to get back to where he was pre injury.

The guy has been surrounded by the Kings of knee reco's (Webster / McManus). I find it hard to believe that he had little dedication especially with these guys around him.

GJ, did David confide this information to you over lunch?

Yeah... Pre-Season training reports are all I have to go on... But I would like to think you are off the mark:confused:

he is way way off the mark but in a way correct :P

Palmer is too dedicated to football and pushing his body to its limits, the only way he isnt dedicated to his rehab program is by pushing things too hard and trying to get ahead of the program instead of sticking to it.

Palmers work ethic can absolutely never be questioned, extremely hard trainer and has been for years even before making it to AFL.

So he isnt dedicated to his rehab program coz he is always trying to get ahead off schedule

The bolded bit is true - most players coming back from knee injuries take a season to get back to their best as they try to regain their confidence and fitness base after missing virtually a year of footy.

Has SFA to do with the rest of your post which comes across as a cheap shot for one of your hardest working players

Unfortunately Im going to have to agree with GJ, I've never seen a player in the rehab stage out as often as I have, Palmer.

Anyone questioning the validity of either myself or GJ simply needs to wander down to Capitol, park a seat at the front bar and watch Palmer load himself up each and every friday and Saturday nights to the point where he cannot string a sentence together.

Im all for players having their down time and being able to relax, but frankly, I've been embarrassed for Palmer when I have seen him out.

His close relationship with Belly is a concern as well. The boy goes out, has access to free grog and plunders it for all it's worth.

Im no expert on alcohol in regards to the effect on rehab, irrespective of that he's drinking too much, too often for an AFL listed player.

Belly enjoys the finer things in life, enjoys himself and is tied up with his half share in at Capitol, he is there every week, where he goes Rhys follows.

Wow Belly has a share in Capitol? I thought my friends were talking crap when they said they saw him there haha. I must say I've seen the Freo boys out a few times at Capitol now. I've never seen them get into mischief or even look/act drunk.

Hang around a little longer and watch him try and walk through the doors out. Hilarious stuff.

You seem to take a fair bit of pleasure out of it, surely any Freo supporter would be upset or disappointed over something like that?

I'll wait for someone who isn't a troll to confirm it first, although I'm not ruling it out at all. :thumbsu:

Hardly. As I have said before, I'm embarrased for him and pretty disappointed to be honest. He may be working his arse off on the track, but from where I'm standing, he's undoing all that good work getting pissed beyond belief.

I can still laugh at a bloke try and work try through a door when they are pissed :D

I simply don't believe this ^^^
For many reasons but primarily that I don't think it's plausible a club would accept this kind of behaviour from a player.
Also everything Palmer has ever shown on the field or the training track suggests an extremely dedicated elite athlete.
Just doesn't ring true to me.

Dust off your flares, catch a taxi into the city and line up tomorrow night, I'll bet my bottom dollar he'll be their again.

You believe what you want. He's there most weekends, getting absolutely plastered.
