Yeah, I like Pantera, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Sepultura, AC/DC, SoaD, QotSA, Kyuss, Foo Fighters, Tool, Helmet and so on. Nothing wrong with some heavy music.

Love all those bands plus many more Avenged Sevenfold, Cog, Butterfly Effect, Trivium to name a few of the newer ones.....

If that makes me a bogan "BRING IT ON".....................:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

I love Pantera, Dimebag will surely be missed, he was a great guitarist. I just hope to see Vinny Paul and Phil Anselmo can put their problems past them, it could be a nice way to end everything.

My favourite all time band and it just so happens War Nerve is one of my favourite songs!:D

My personal opinion is that Dimbebag is a over rated guitar player - and has only gotten more "famous" because of his death. And as a person he was a red neck and a piece of sh_t. But now he is some sort of guitar god or person to look up too.

same, not a pearl jam fan....as for pantera, love em

I don't mind pearl Jam.

Love Trivium, Anihilator, SOAD, Korn (they are heavy), Slipknot, Mudvayne, AC/DC, Sepultura, Mushroom Head, Machine Head and Soulfly.

Among others...

Ok, its your opinion.

But he certainly aint 'over rated', in fact he is far from famous, and any fame he has gained has come from recognition for being an awesome guitarist in one of the biggest 90's Metal bands. Have you never heard a Dimebag solo??

Damn, im going to chuck on Vulgar Video when I get home tonight and watch the great man in action.

Dimebag ********s on Kirk Hammet imo.

Hell yeah brother!

If anyone thinks dimebag is overrated just listen to the song Floods and then try and tell me dime is overrated!

you are a grade A fool if a) you think dime wasn't loved the world over before his death and b) that he was a redneck peice of sh#t.
The man was widely reputed as being the nicest bloke you could meet. go and read the thousands of pages of stories and tributes to the guy all over the net from fans and bands. he had a heart as big as texas and also could play guitar like i could only wish.

oh hell yeah...i remember dimebag posted some stuff on the eyehategod forum/board YEEEARS ago, and he sure was a goshdarned redneck. vicious redneck...i think he must be one of those incest-advocating types that drives a pick up with a confederates flag sticker plastered everywhere. or he would've been...

Sorry gang, my opinion is that Dimebag is not a "guitar god" and to me his music is very bland and boring. Other then say, half of the songs from cowboys from hell, everything pantera/dimebag has done is pretty bad.

Unlike like other great guitarists/musicians Dimebag has not influenced any one, he has not created his own style, well, i suppose you can call that unique pantera sound his, you know that boring and repetitive stop start guitar playing? My opinion is that this type of music and guitar playing is very bland and worthless.

There are many other great bands/musicians that have influenced other generations eg metallica. Whilst Pantera first started out as some second rate copy or clone of def lepard or glam rock out fit, then they started to get real "angry" and became a Exhorder wanna be band. Dont mess with the angry red necks, or Dimebag will "******** you up".

How can you even put Dimebag in the same league as Rhandy Rhoads,Zack Whyle, Steve Vai etc?

From the articles i have read, dimebag seemed like a redneck and a moron. I also couldnt stand his and pantera's "Angry-tough violent man, don't screw with us" attitude. The funny thing, these guys used to be some sort of glam rock outfit in their early days, singing about fast cars, women, looking good.....

I think its a real shame that there are a whole lot of other guitarists out there, living or dead, who are not as hyped up in the media like dimbag, but are ither much more better, or have influenced more people/genres.

Also. Dimebag does not even come close to beating Kirk Hammett. Metallica was one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever, and has influenced many musicians. Pantera slowly died and no one really cared. And who can forget "Damage Plan" and how "successfull" they became. Its also criticised for having few solos, and the ones that were on it were very bland.

I dont know what to say except that I disagree with 97% of what you just said (the 3% is knowing that Pantera were a glam band in the late 80's)

Zack Wylde on Dimebag: "He was my partner in six-string crime. He was a beautiful guy. A BLACK LABEL guy. He was one of the most beautiful souls you'd ever meet. If you were having a crappy day, he'd come in and light the room up. Aside from being one of the greatest guitar players ever, he was an even better person."

Hmm, Zakk Wyldes ringing endorsement? Or your ill-informed rant?

I probably liked 30% of Pantera's output, none of it coming from the pre-vulgar days. I thought that album sounded very fresh for its time. It sounded innovative and did nothing to diminish the power of the metal genre.

As for the dimester, he was a great guitarist and I loved his playing, but I don't think he could be counted among the greatest (Vai, Satriani, Mclaughlin, et al).

Vai and Satch have it all over Dimebag technically, but I think Dimebag dwarfed those guys feel-wise, so that's why I prefer him. I don't think he's up there with the greatest either, but he's probably the best of his generation.

True. Nobody can dispute or ignore his playing attributes. A master at what he did.

if you had any credit or wanted to show that you knew anything about pantera or dimebag you just lost it with that comment.
Dimebags image was never inflated as a tough guy, or a meathead.
As for saying dimebag never influenced anyone, i could name at least ten muso's just in my local area who were/are heavily influenced by him.

if you want to keep saying he had no talent then you should also refuse to watch this clip that was taken when he was 17-18....http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5818732723072318074&q=dimebag

Cosby, come on, who can forget the tough guy posing on the stage by the pantera boys, including Dimebag? The guy was a redneck and a guy who tried extremly hard to look tough.

And yeah, you might know of a few young hopefull fellows struming a few chords in their basement who have been inspired by dimebag, but what bands has dimebag inspired? What type of sub genres of metal has he helped create? What is his signiture sound?

Iron Maiden along with Juda Priest created melodic heavy metal, introducing melodical melodies/interludes into heavy metal. These bands influenced metallica, and also helped create other sub genres such as melodical death metal and power metal.

Slayer was a heavy influence on death and black metal, and put tremolo picking into the mainstream.

Metallica, have helped redefine thrash, and have influeced a whole generation of guitarists heavy metal fans. They have inspired nearl eveyr heavy metal band past the 80's.

Death/Chuck Schuldiner mainly created death metal, and then later technical death metal

In Flames Jesper Strombland/Glen Ljungström and a few other bands started melodical death metal

Bathory,Venom etc helped create Black Metal

Varg Vikernes helped created National Socialist Black Metal (unfortunately)

These are bands/guitarists who actually helped make the genre known as "heavy metal" sound fresh and innovating. They made it progress forward.Interesting.

The above bands/guitarists are people who are not "wizards" such as Vai, Hendrix,Petrucci etc - so in my view he is not as good as the "regular" joes or the "wizards".

So what has Pantera done? What sound has Dimebag help create? My opinion is that Pantera came to late onto the scene to even have a influence on any other bands or guitar players, they were lucky heavy metal hit rock bottem and then they were seen as some sort of innovators of heavy metal.

I think its a real shame that a real great human being such as Denis D'Amour did not get as much attention when he passed unlike the Drunken badboy redneck.Or what about Chuck Schuldiner? A real pioneer in heavy metal. Unfortunatley chuck wasnt Overhyped and wasnt the poster boy for MTv.Not even Rhandy Rhoads was pumped up as much as dimebag after his death, at least rhandy had talent.
To me this is like Kurt Cobain again, media tough guy dies, and then he is regarded as some sort of champion and great musician.

Those are my views about Pantera, Dimebag, and their "legacy".There music is worthles to me,thats why i sold most of my old pantera cds.

Your a real hero mate ********ting on a dead man's legacy!

Pantera made power metal what is today!

Anyway Pantera have Influenced the likes of Disturbed,Korn(Who said a couple of years back that vulgar display of power created them!)Slipknot,Limp Bizkit(unfortunetly Durst has said on numerous occassions in magazines that pantera influenced him as well)Godsmack,Staind,Static-X and the list goes on!

So when you say Pantera haven't influenced any big bands at all it just goes to show that really have no idea what your talking about.

And far as this tough guy image is concerned i think you might be getting dime mixed up with Anselmo?
